I would buy a Leica Hand Grip for my M8 if only I could find a used one in the UK at a sensible price, seem to be very thin on the ground right now.

I was doing just the same, but never found a used one. I then discovered that Ffordes still had new stock for a lower cost than anywhere else and bought one. I'm very pleased to have it - what I didn't realise is that unlike the less-expensive film-M grip it actually replaces the entire base plate rather than just being screwed-in to the tripod socket. This to me justifies the higher price as it is a more substantial item than the 14405 film-m grip.
I like walking around with the strap around my wrist and the camera in hand for quick picture taking - the addition of the grip makes this a much more secure proposition.

a patch of griptac in the right spot on the upper right corner of the back makes a great alternative to the thumbs up. (although I admit with the release of the new chrome version I am tempted just for the looks).
i also have leica grip on it almost all the time, except when I go out with the mini rollei sonnar and want max slim profile.
a CV double shoe on occasion for external finder and level.
took off the white lettering "M8" on the front. that plus the black leica dot and a black soft release makes a very low-key appearance, in spite of the anti-panda chrome dials (which i happen to love with a chrome lens attached).
a black artist & artisan strap to top it off.

Wow! I didn't realise the extent to which one can 'bling' an M8/9.
I've been looking at the Match Technical soft releases, simply as I can get them cheaper in the UK than getting an RFF one delivered. As such I'm glad to hear the 'bip' is a quality item...though I think I'll be going for the, iirc, larger version called the 'bop.'

Luigi case with cut outs for the Mate-2, A&A strap and 1.4x VF magnifier. Since the magnifier does not come off the camera, I carry the appropriate VF when shooting wide:

Many thanks for that, sadly my hopes were dashed as they've now sold out of black ones and it was a good price too as you say. Ah well, thanks anyway much appreciated.I was doing just the same, but never found a used one. I then discovered that Ffordes still had new stock for a lower cost than anywhere else and bought one. Luigi case & strap, thumbs up, RFF soft release, zeiss 18mm viefinder and Kenko vernier polariser viewer plus filters.
Leica 21mm finder for the 15mm, Zeiss 25+28 finder for 18 & 21mm, Leica matching grips for chrome M8, black M8. Agree with Austerby that integrating the grip with the baseplate was a nice move. I still like the M-Grip on my M2 but it does add a bit of height.
