What are Edge Enhancement & Tint???

Hi All! First time post and new R-D1 user.

Two questions: what are Edge Enhancement & Tint setting? Thanks!

Here is a bit about myself- I have been using the R-D1 for about 3 weeks now, very very happy with it. I have been a Nikon user since high school, and recently ebayed my D70. I have never used an interchangeable lens RF before, my other RFs are Yashica GSN & Minolta Hi-Matic 9. With the R-d1 everything is sort of new yet familiar to me, but I love the vignetting, the classical "click" sound, and the film crank! I am having a lot of fun. Problem: RF is a tad misaligned, so I have to look for vertical objects for focus. I had a Skopar 25/4, oddly, that resulted a 1 to 1.3 stops under exposure, and histogram confirms this. BUT, my Nokton 40/1.4 is perfect for some reason, so is my Canon 50/1.8.

Edge Enhancement is the same thing as "Sharpening" - IMHO it is better with the R-D1 to set this as low as possible and sharpen in Photoshop. The in-camera sharpening tends to give highlights a "video" look. The one exception is with some monochromatic textures like grass, foliage, or intertwined tree/bush branches. In those cases the internal sharpening can help distinguish the texture before the in-camera processing "locks in" the jpeg.

"Tint" affects the white balance. Regular white balancing is done on a yellow-to-blue scale. The tint works on a green-to-magenta scale. So if the overall white balance is a bit red, one can make it cooler (blue) and also add in some green tint.

In either case, these only affect jpegs if set in the camera. If you shoot RAW the same controls will be available in the RAW developer software of your choice.

Thanks for the response. I don't think I will tweak those settings much either. However, just curious though, a "+Tint" is toward more green or magenta?

I like FILM 2 setting because it is contrasty and saturaed, however, a bit toward the warm side. I think I will have to tweak the tint there a bit.
