What are your thoughts on "paying for a premium" ?

You have supply and demand and if you want it and can afford to buy, go for it.

I would like to have one but would not pay above list price for it or for most items and actually prefer to buy below list prices.

Sometimes there is a premium price to pay to be an early adaptor.

I may never own one in my life time but then again I may.

There is a waiting list... so, some people can't wait.

+1, same as some people line up at night with a blanket to be the first the get the latest Apple gadget as the first and being photographed when they leave the store with their trophy bag.

I would assume that RF people have enough patience and no one will snatch the M up for that premium price so the guy might need to drop the price even below list to sell it off.

Patience is a virtue, unless you have money to burn and feed this trade - no virtue required.
Not necessarily. If I can earn money with something, it might be foolish not to buy it, even at a premium. And if I value my enjoyment at (say) $200/month and there's a delay of 12 months or more (as there has often been with Morgan cars, for example), then a modest premium makes eminent sense.

Cheers,

R.

I'm waiting. Already waited over 3 weeks and only moved from number 16 to number 15 for a M9M. Purposely went with one of our sponsors who I've had the pleasure of dealing with before.

Anyways meanwhile I got plenty of cameras to use. Waiting is part of the excitment. Why would I want to cheat myself? In a way it seems like I won't be one of those early adopters which might be a good thing.

Waiting is kinda like foreplay.

How far would I go?

As far as need and want determine. My bank account is also a determining factor.

For instance, I chose to pay a premium to buy a new camera recently, rather a second-hand example. The discriminator there is that the new one carries full support and a service warranty, and I deemed that to be worth the extra $400. On other equipment, I've chosen the other direction to save some money.

So it all depends.

10k$ is exactly the sum I would pay for one liter of water if I was in the sahara after two days without any liquid.
Or for an MM if I was making big bucks with it.
So it's all a question of context.
I think it's not the camera and the price, but the itch we all feel for the guy that is making three grands by speculating on a camera we would love to have, and making the noble photographer soul after him in the line waiting even more for the beloved camera.
shame, shame on him!

Not sure I understand. Concept process? Please give a context to ground me.

Hi calzone...what i ment was: if you think the newest things are the best you should go for it...many think film is enough...
then, would a monochrom grant you a better service "per se"???

About the premium concept, isn´t needed, imo it doesn´t apply for a leica monochrom...perhaps for a hermes leica...that´s a premium..imo...;)
