What Cameras Did the M8 Displace?

I keep reading about folks who have sold their Canon 5D systems (several of these) or D200 systems or film systems after getting the M8.

So that's the question . . . what cameras did your M8 displace for you?

In my case, I have given virtually no attention to my D200 kit or my R-D1 but my Canon G7 survives as a go-everywhere thing.

HAve no clue as to whether I'll ditch all my other gear (likely not) but I DO think I can sell off a variety of lenses from my Nikon kit given the M8s strengths.
 
Good topic. My M8 displaced my Canon 30D/XT setup. Canon makes cameras that takes excellent photographs, but they just are not fun to shoot with. After playing with a demo M8 at my dealers store for a week straight, I sold all my Canon gear to finance my M8. Now I've got one film M and one digital M that I love and use equally.
 
I got my M8 about two months ago. Since then, I have not used my EOS-1D Mark II . Also my M6 is not being used much as well.

I don't think I will sell the Canon. I will use it for wildlife or macro but that is not the type of photo I usually do.
 
I just sold my Canon 20D and Elan 7n with a bunch of EF lenses for just an M8.

After I bought my M7, all my Canon gear both film and Digital just went unused. I'd still stick with the M7 and completely ignore the existance of the M8 if it wasn't that I needed digital for work and that the Canon gear is just horrid to deal with. Makes beautiful pictures yes. But I just prefer using a rangefinder.
 
The D200 has mostly sat on the coffee table since the M8 arrived. My film Leicas are unused since the wife has fits when I use film and then need to get it developed. Still love the Film Leicas though. Love my R8 far better than the D200. Anyone want to trade a DMR for a D200 and the 18 - 200 zoom?
 
It this replacing due to the M8 or due to owning a new toy?

I experienced the same thing when I got my Bessa L (replacing Eos 3000), Bessa R (replacing Bessa L), Leitz Minolta CL (replacing Bessa R) and R-D1 (replacing everything plus a 6 months old Eos 300D).

Now, however, after about 18-24 months, I'm slowly picking up my M2 and my Eos 300D more and more.
 
Since its arrival, M8 replaces my other rangerfinders such as M6, IIf, bessa R. But I expect to go back to film rangerfinders after the honeymoon with M8 is over.
 
Sold the 5D and some shorter focal length Canon lenses. Since bought a 400D (Rebel XTi elsewhere) so I can still use my longer lenses.
 
When the M8 was released I sold my M4-P because i never shoot on film anymore. It was just gathering dust and looking pretty. The M8 is wonderful and it has found its place in my daily photography work, but it can never replace my Canon gear. There's just too much stuff you cannot do with a rangefinder.

Sold a Hasselblad outfit to fund M8 purchase. I am slowly buying back Hassy gear from e-bay at a good bit less than I sold it for 6 months ago. Sold My MP to buy the new 28 2.8 lens. So if its film I go medium format or large format, but unlikely to use 35mm film any time soon. Still enjoy my Holga, the only camera which is probably worth less (resale) than the film it contains.
 
i am hanging on to my 5d as the m8 will never do what it can ... and i for pro use the 5d is just faster and better longer battery etc etc... but the m8 shots have POP.. for sure no comparison
 
I will probably keep my 5D and the 70-200 f/2.8L for sports and action and I will sell all other L lenses for a 35mm Leica glass.
Since I bought M8 in the beginning of March, I haven't used my 5D.
 
My M8 looks as if it has displaced my "old warriors" - a CL I've been using for 20 years and my M4-2. My Ricoh GR-D has been relegated to a back-up and my old Pentax's will likely never see the light of day again. I'll use my Canon G5 when I have to put a camera in harms way (eg. on the beach or in the Bijlmer). I doubt I'll sell any of them as they are either too beat up to get a decent price for or I'm too sentimentally attached to the old dogs.
 
I've been an occasional Leica user for around 40 years and went to using them almost exclusively maybe 4 years ago when I could no longer comfortably focus my old Pentaxes. So I know their strengths and weaknesses and would never be comfortable owning only a rangefinder. And there are places and situations where I would be most uncomfortable bringing a $5000 camera (which is not weather sealed either). I respect and admire those who have made the M8 their only camera, but that just wouldn't work for me.
