What can you fit in a Hadley Small?

I was reading another thread on RFF about a bag for two Ms, and I thought this might be of interest to folk...

I had some time to kill so I made a little slide show of my Hadley Small in various configurations. All of these set-ups fit properly - as in, the stuff fits without busting at the seams or poking out at weird angles...

Keep in mind this isn't by any means a review, just a visual reference if anyone is ever looking for something similar.

Pocket stuff...
Front left:
- Wallet
- Keys
- Sekonic L308s

Front right:
- 135/120 film
- Bay I yellow filter
- 28mm VF (when I'm carrying the VM 28/f2)
- Lip balm

Between the insert and the bag (back):
- Ipad Mini

Between the insert and the front:
- Notebook and pens
- Cleaning cloth
- Cable release


Going minimal...
- Leica M2 and VM 50/f1.5 with filter and hood


Three lens kit #1:
- Leica M2 and VM 50/f1.5
- 90mm Tele Elmarit
- VM 28/f2


Three lenses and a digital:
- Leica M2 and VM 50/f1.5
- 90mm Tele Elmarit and VM 28/f2 stacked
- Ricoh GR


Mixing formats:
- Leica M2 and VM 50/f1.5
- Minolta Autocord


RF/unRF:
- Leica M2 and VM 50/f1.5
- Pentax LX and SMC-M 50/f1.4


Day out:
- Leica M2 and VM 50/f1.5
- 90mm Tele Elmarit and VM 28/f2 stacked
- 600ml water bottle (the lid on this particular bottle makes the bag bulge...)
 
Interesting that the way I use my Hadley small is quite similar to yours.
The photo below depicts the setup with 2Ms,
I also go lite with M2/35 summicron and mix the formats with M2/35+ Rolleiflex 3.5f
In short, the Hadley small is a-perfect bag for me. I used to have a Billingham for Leica but found it a bit narrow. I also tempted to get the Hadley Pro but in the end decided to stick with the one I have.

Similar size like an Ona Bowery.

2x Ms with lens, 6 rolls of film, filter and Gossen light meter in the front pocket:

You need a JCH film case, you'll fit 10 rolls in less space than those 6.

And now I see it, those front pockets are mighty slim!
 
Yeah, the tiny Gossen on the right is a tight squeeze. Maybe the leather will give a little over the next few months.

I consider the Ona Bowery more a 1-camera than a 2-camera bag.

Hmmm I see what you (and others) mean about the slim size of the external pockets on the Bowery. Seems an odd design decision on an otherwise great looking bag...

I consider the Ona Bowery more a 1-camera than a 2-camera bag.

The 5 roll is also a beauty, nice and slim. I take the 5 roll for a day, and a pair of 10s for a holiday (plus the 5 for the day trip) :)
 
This has been a very educational thread! I've been wondering for such a long time just what fits in some of these bags, and more importantly, how. Its extremely helpful to see the actual pack for a day out, complete with lip balm. I've been juggling between a lot of no-name bags of various kinds, but not finding that sweet spot. I know the Hadley bags are a bit "luxury" compared to many of my trials, but I'm more interested in getting to my little bag nirvana than anything else.

The Hadley Small really seems like it will fit my needs nicely.

So, no handle on the Hadley Small? Darn. Also, how quickly can I access my camera with this bag while I'm wearing it? Typically, I wear a bag with the strap bandolero? style and reach into the bag for my camera when I see something of interest. That is, of course, when I don't already have my camera out with its strap over my neck. Did I see a flap on the Hadley Small that might slow me down?

Nup. Can't say I'm sure what Billingham's logic was with that decision, probably the one detail of the Hadley Small that doesn't make much sense...

Yep there's a flap and it does slow you down a touch. If you want to be gunslinger-fast though why isn't the camera already in your hand? ;)
 
I am not a "bag guy", but the Hadley Small is the only camera bag I use. It fits two Ms (one film, one digital, each with a small lens mounted (either 50 Elmar-M, Zeiss 35 C-Biogon or 28 Elmarit asph) and then a third lens (faster than and of a different focal length to the other two). Sometimes I will swap one of the Ms out for the X100s.

It would be silly to have a handle on a bag of this size IMO.
 
Agree that the handle is not needed on this bag, pratically or aesthetically. Any opinion on the shoulder strap pad? There are 2 possibilities, one smaller and less cushion than the other.

I agree ,in fact the absence of a handle was a plus feature for me.
I use my HS all the time for all my M and digital compact combinations.

The only exception is my 5D2 with the 70-200/2.8 and for that I use a Hadley F4
 
I snug my Hasselblad 203FE in mine, laid flat with back, 80FE and hood fittted. Just fits, with another back and light meter in the front pockets.

Would a Rolleiflex fit standing up, or is it significantly taller than the Autocord?
 
I'm thinking about a Domke F10 , is this a good choice for 2 M6ttl ? I have a F2 that I really like .
 
Hi Raul , a Domke F2 is not very large and sits nice against your body and doesn't have much padding but sufficient . I'm using these since 1993 , now my second one . But for only 2 Ms I'd prefer a smaller bag , I usually don't carry much other stuff , so ...

I use the Domke F2 for a Nikon D3 or F5 with zoom and a M6 , perfect for that . Regards , E.M
 
I keep a Hadley Small at work to carry my lunchtime kit. So far it has swallowed a Fujica ST801 with hooded Fujinon 135mm f/2.5, Fujinon 50mm f/1.4, Fujica 35EE, Sekonic L-398A, and half-a-dozen rolls of film; and an Olympus E-20P with wide, short-tele, and macro conversion lenses.

Any larger load goes in my 445.
 
A slightly different bag, I'm not sure which one is, which I gave to my wife as present a few years ago. But wife got a bigger camera and lens so now I use it.

Sometimes excellent for my "Hybrid Kit" film + digital: in this case Rolleiflex + Leica X1 !
