What did your spouse say about your digital M purchase?

Before i got my M8, I bought my girlfriend a nice bouquet of flowers which I'd never done before, so she was a bit taken aback for about a week. After she saw it, she said "I'm glad you're using your Leica again" after seeing my M8. I don't really know where that came from since my other Leica is a chrome M4 while the M8 is black, but I'll take the mulligan where I can get it.
She understands that it's an investment into a way to make money, so I think that's why there hasn't been any negativity about it.

They always look at the camera body as the expensive part, meanwhile I just got a 90mm Tele-Elmarit, mint rigid Summicron and a UC-Hexanon! 🙄

Well, my girlfriend sure do know the value of Leica gear. So, when I finally found the M8 for the price I could afford, she just said, "Stop contemplating and just buy it! We both know you want it, and you're gonna end up buying one sooner or later".
Of course she was right 🙂

My wife and I have been married just over a year and a half now. She is a huge bird watcher and author on the subject. I purchased for her a pair of Leica 8X50 binoculars to get her upgraded from her 20 some year old second hand pair of B&L. They are good glass but had much pitting, scratches and color aberrations from the years of hard ware.

Well she saw the box before I could effective hide it (well that is my story 🙂 ) and one day she asked me if I were to pick one of my cameras to use exclusively what would it be…. I dropped the "M8" word even though I did not have one. Would have said the M9 but that was only rumored then.

Come our anniversary I was given a shiny silver Leica box too. She loves her 8x50 and is grateful that we did these gifts, but mentioned the other day…. No more Leicas for the next few aniverseries.

my girlfriend told me that i should get the m9 since its release date coincided with my birthday . then i told her the cost and availability. this was sept 09... fast forward, last week when i started editing my pictures from past years, the photography desire is back. i said im thinking of getting an m8 since it would be perfect to practice the rangefinder format. she said go for it, the leica should last you longer than your old canons/nikon. then the search began and funny enough, with luck, a post in craigslist with less than 300 clicks, i jump the gun and met the guy at his work this past friday and the same time had a zeiss 25mm 2.8 overnight shipped. so this weekend has been quite nice, playing with my new m8 at friend's son's birthday. he is a nikonian at heart, he does not like my m8. lol... then compares image in the lcd... little did he know, m8's lcd screen is subpar to d300 but that doesnt matter, i said. we'll see who has better pics after this weekend.

When we got married back in 72 we went traveling in Europe so she didn't get a diamond. She turned 60 and I got her a very nice diamond. Shortly after that she said "you don't spend much money so why don't you get that camera you mentioned."
I got the M8. When the M9 came out I said I was interested and she just said "well if you can sell the M8, but I hope this is the last." I happily have an M9. I know I won't be getting an M10. But I'll still be happy. Full frame is all I wanted.

"Go ahead. There is no better time than now." It's better than buying a red sports car after your kids are out of college. Very seriously though: How can you ever complain about anything your wife buys after you pay $7000 for one camera? She knew what she was doing. Did I? We also have this outrageous family habit of treating cost as cost per use. So, the first time you use a M9 it costs you $7000, the second time only $3500, etc. Pretty soon you're down the the price of a $200 camera, and then down to practically nothing. But hey, you gotta use the thing a lot. She also likes the idea that all the lenses are going up in value, way up.

a few years ago, she said, "an epson: why buy a camera from a typewriter company? get the leica if that's what you really want." and, thus, my target changed from the rd1 to the m8.

A box arrives in the mail, she usually answers the door to sign for it as I am upstairs in my office. Calls me and say's - "More camera gear?!?" and sighs deeply and disdainfully - I grin and do not respond and take said box away to open and inspect and play with. I made sure I hid my M8 receipt well away though!

Good job she's not yet noticed the M2 that arrived yesterday, but she will. 😀

I love my wife. I call my Leica gear my old stuff, she is convinced that they are old. Once I die and she reads my will, she will know how much camera stuff I have and how much cash she can get out of it.

Hope she does not give it away in a garage sale :~)

As I have a lot of equipment that I'm selling to finance the m8, it doesn't affect the household so much. And every time she looks at the IQ my Ms produce, she says, make a book out of it, they're wonderful. I love her for that.
