Vintage photographs, but anything I want will probably cost in the thousands....

Suggestions?

Antique stores, swap meets. Especially the latter. The dealers buy storage units and sometime they'll run across things like photo albums or collections. If you ask 'em, they might be willing to keep an eye out for you if it looks like you're a willing buyer. Sometimes they'll have vintage photos too, but usually antique dealers are better for the old stuff.

The old photos I've found at antique dealers -- just loose photos, not mounted in frames or anything -- are often pretty cheap, I've found. No need to spend thousands.

Thanks for this suggestion. I had really only been interested in specific images/types of images (definitely expensive), but maybe your idea will lead me into a different type of pursuit.
