Right,

I've hung out here long enough for it to start annoying me. I obviously understand the meaning of GAS, based on the context that the TLA is used, but what does it stand for ?

Somebody put me out of my misery ?! At least as far as GAS is concerned...

(now do you think I should go for 75mm or 90mm) STOP IT! step away from the vehicle, sir! place the camera on the floor, being careful not to scratch the baseplate.

thank you for your co-operation, now move along, nothing to see.....

Gear Acquisition Syndrome - usually starts after viewing the "Camera and Coffee" thread - first symptoms are drooling all over the keyboard, then come slight shakes with every visit to RFF, etc., etc.

Rather unpleasant and contageous....

There's a specialised version of GAS that some of us suffer from as well - LAS (Lens Acquisition Syndrome) - where you have an unreasonable desire to get extra lenses that you don't really need and will probably never use......

Oh, and be warned - both GAS and LAS are contagious, and just by being here you have probably already been infected.....

I'm not sure I understand....would this apply to a 35mm pre-war Biogon, post-war Biogon, 35mm Orthometar, and 35mm Biometar, all for Contax RF? 😀 Have I been infected? Worse yet, am I a carrier and could I possibly be infecting others? But I'm in remission now 😉

Hahaha...

YES D2, you're "glam" Contax pics have smitten me with Contax lust... and my current mantra is something along the lines of, "Must get another Contax IIa! Must get another Contax IIa!" 😉

...AND then a Contax I....AND a 21mm Biogon....AND....

Completely infected with G.A.S. 😀

"Completing a set" is a particularly nasty GAS problem, I think. You justify a purchase simply because the item would go well with other items you already have, or are also trying to acquire. One can think of lenses this way, in groups to take out together to cover expected subject matter. Of course it's like quicksand...

Say, D2, which Zeiss 35mm lens is the Jupiter-12 a copy of; Biogon or Biometar?

Akalai,
Without benefit of lab tests I would say from observation that you likely have low levels of immunities or insufficient stores of antibodies to resist this disease -- you are particularly susceptible. 😀
Doug, the Jupiter 12 is a pre-war Biogon clone (if you have to copy you could do a lot worse).

Precisely the reaction I had after admiring/lusting after your new M6, Denis 😉
And then I blindly went to KEH and eBay, completely oblivious to all conscious and rational thought...

Well, nice way to ask a question, ij... Now, you got me stumped with that TLA.

Someone put me out of my misery now...

Thanks! 😀

Then there is a more specific variation of GAS, which is LAS, or Leica Aquisition Syndrom, for which the sufferer is required to amass a LAF, or Leica Aquisition Fund. Oh, my!

TLA = Three Letter Acronym. Originally a term from IBM, I believe.....

But I am done now! I have all the Konica RF lenses apart from the 50/2 (I have a slower non-Konica and the faster 50 though) and the 35/2 (which I substituted for the previous lighter LTM variant).

I feel so at ease now, I wonder how long it will last?

I still have that nagging feeling that I want to own one Leica lens. Maybe a Elmar 50/2.8 in chrome will cure it? But then I have a Leica lens in my enlarger so maybe I should settle with that. Maybe next year...
