What else turns us on?

I've got lots of interests, but hobby wise, birding would come hand in hand with photography. At least 4000 of the 5000 shots I've taken in the last 6 months on the Dreb is birds. Of course, the "miss rate" is rather high, but that's why I have the Dreb 🙂.

Getting birds close enough to photograph, and then getting the shot off, can be very difficult, and then there's the matter of being in the right place at the right time. I went by the Cranberry Marsh Raptor Watch today, and I had missed the Bald Eagle that cruised the marsh for 10 min's at close range.

Unfortunately, birding with a RF.... ummmm... pointless. I do keep a RF with me for scenics tho.

Ohh wine!!!

I've been doing Aikido for the last 11 years, more than a hobby it is one of the most important activities in my life and since the master I practice with is french I like a lot wine and cheess, chablis, chardonnay and beaujulais are my favorite ones ahhh... 🙂

Barret

Yep, should be more than a hobby. That is why I didn't mention Hapkido. Even though I don't actively study now, it never leaves my mind for long. Similar to Aikido, but with a little difference in attitude/philosophy.

Oldprof, you may try Santa Rita Reservado if another good chilean wine.

Barret

Santa Rita, when I was in college my wine fancy was started on Santa Rita Cabernet Sauvignon, probably about the 1984 vintage, or maybe 1986. Many a case made its way into the hands, and stomachs of my group of friends. It was @$5.00 a bottle, and tasted so much better than that.

I see so many here that I have been "into", it's stunning. I still lust after motorcycles, my favorite from the 70's being the Yamaha RD-350 I raced at Willow Springs raceway. I love rock climbing, but with age, rope rescue and SAR are all I do anymore.
Ham radio is lots of fun (KD7YOE), trying to talk to the Int. Space Station (both astronaut and cosmonaut are hams too).
I still love pen/pencil drawing and sculpture with the new polymere-clay, but photography consumes me still. The light and color of these Fall days is glorious 😀

Wow that's a lot of pple into motorcycles, food and wine! now what was it that women said we men only cared for again? :O)

Personally, I"m into sports (all kinds), music and photography, and not forgetting keeping fishes (planted tanks, marine tanks). one major sport I used to do was fencing, did that for almost 5-6 yrs before I decided I couldn't commit to the trainings required.

As for music (as with everything else) I believe in experiencing, appreciating and learning as much as I can in this lifetime about the variety available out there. this extends to lots of other things like travelling, sports, etc in my life. sort of a personal philosophy. one of the things I really get kicks out of tho, is watching a local gig where local bands do their own thing to small appreciative crowds. Here in singapore, local music isn't very popular and local bands are hence very raw and its a pleasure to watch such raw energy from both the band and the fans.

Wow, I only put hobbies. Wine and food are life passions, I never thought of them as "hobbies" though. Kind of like the appreciation of beautiful women, aaah .......... 😀

HHmmm ... I think I have far too many interests, more than I have time for 😀. Other than photography/cameras my longest interest has been shooting (20yrs+), mostly target pistol (Service/Action, like PPC/IPSC) pistol but I've tried most things over the years, Informal Skeet/Trap, Full bore rifle etc.. I've been into computers more recently, building my own firstly because of money constraints then later for performance (overclocking, active cooling etc..) games type machines, recently I've setup a Domain/Server(MS2003 & Exchange)/Network/DSL at home that I have still to really get my head around the finer points :bang: hehe. My latest interest is my mountain bike, I bought a entry level 'Giant' just as a way to get fit and ride to work everyday but I can see its going to grow into a monster interest if I'm not careful, so far I've added road slicks, bar ends, egg beater pedals & shoes, computer etc.. and now I'm drooling over the high spec models with thoughts of trail riding/camping weeks away .... burb!.. it can’t hurt to dream eh? Hehehe

Here is a photo my friend took of me in action with his .50 AE Desert Eagle…😀

Laika,
What dept/agency uses the Desert Eagle? LOL.
I prefer 9mm +P+ CorBon in my S&W, easier to carry and to find for sale 🙂

st. Helens fizzles ........

st. Helens fizzles ........

Well, to all who were asking, Mt. St Helens had a little steam/ash release at noon Paciific time today.
She just had to burp 😛

So Laika, are you in computer hardcore modification, with custom transparent cases, neons, liquid freezer and all that ? 😉

If you like 'different' computer games, take a look to www.thief3.com, the last one on the thief series. Love 1 and 2, must get enough computer to play 3 yet, hehe...

Must go now, and in fact I'll be out of town and internet this weekend, so, have fun everybody !!! 😉

I'm not into much besides photography. I like to travel, and take walks through town and countryside. My wife turns me on, and my little girl keeps me busy. That's enough for me. 🙂

My other pleasures from photography include:
  • Sea Kayaking - I started doing this a couple years ago. I'm hoping to build a Pygmy Arctic Tern this spring and have it in Lake Michigan by summer. I'd like to plan a trip to the Apostle Islands in 2005.
  • Bicycling - I'm trying to finish a homemade singlespeed from my old MTB frame. And I don't ride my recumbent nearly as much as I'd like or should.
  • Backcountry Camping - I've been trying to make it a point to go for a week every year. Last year was Isle Royale Nat'l Park. This year was Olympic Nat'l Park along the Pacific Ocean.
  • Yoga - I've enjoyed this ever since I took a class with my wife while she was pregnant. I've been thinking of enrolling in a Center down the street from my house that offers classes. Don't laugh, it's harder than you think.
  • Food, Wine & Tea - I cook because my wife can't (she could burn water) and I'm soooo much better at it. My favorite wine is a good Pinot Noir (I'm not a wine snob; I hate wine snobs). And I quit drinking coffee three years ago and now drink primarily tea (I'm not a tea snob; I hate tea snobs).
  • My Wife & Daughter - I love my girls more than all of the above. My daughter just turned three and learned to walk on her own just this summer. She has cerebral palsey, though very mild. I you met her, you'd probably only notice that she's not as fast as the other kids her age.
