What is a film you would use for portraits in this situation?

I use only B&W film, 120 format only and I develop my own, preferably using Rodinal 1:50. I also use Xtol 1:1 and HC110.

The portraits would be of my children and indoors. I just started to use flash and bought 2 Alien Bees B800s with soft boxes. I also have 2 Interfit fluorescent continuous lights that I use to illuminate the background.

The cameras include RF Mamiya 7II (50 and 80 lenses), Fuji 690 GSWIII and GWIII, as well as SLR Hasselblad 205FCC and 203FE using CFE lenses (80 and 40) so I can use the leaf shutter to sync up to 1/500 for "action" shots. I also have various FE lenses 50, 110, and 150 that can sync up to 1/90 for more "still" portrait shots at more classic focal lengths.

Presently, my 400 speed film that I use is Fuji Neopan that I expose at 200 to get the skin tones that I like. I've tried the flash using this film and Xtol 1:1 for 9 minutes and 200 is the speed that works for me.

Now that Plus X is gone in 120, what 120 film would you pick? Compared to 400 speed, would a slower film result in more tonality? I would like a film that would have a wider processing latitude.

Can anyone comment also specifically on Acros 100 or Ilford Pan F as these are of interest to me.

I've always used Tri-X for this kind of work and for everything else. Use what you usually use and it will work great. I do flash portraits with a similar setup using my Rollei 3.5F

Define "tonality:" its pretty subjective. Some people prefer different types of tonality.

For general portraits, in middle-ish speeds I am rather partial to the look of FP4+, which I find to be more classic than the T-grain films and somewhat creamy when processed in developers like XTOL or DDX.

Agfa APX100 developed in Rodinal Stand, 40mins at room temperature (30C !)
Leica M3 with Summarit 50/f1.5

Neopan 400 shot @ 400, developed in Rodinal 1+100 in a semi-stand development...I invert and turn for 10 seconds every 4-5 minutes (develop for 40 minutes @ 68*)
Fuji Acros 100 will also give you some nice skin tones...
