What happened to RFF ?? Maybe its me ?

in talking with jorge on the phone or in emails, he has never even hinted that making this site into a bigger commercial venture was part of his plan.
now, he is under no obligation to share that info with me either, i'm a volunteer mod not a partner.
it will be interesting to watch what does transpire in the future.

Then ya know what I think would really help here -- if Jorge would just make a simple statement to that effect. I think it would really clear the air and help all of us over this little bump in the road here. 🙂

well ..alot of the forum members are very keen people
and you know the old saying..
if it walks like a duck.. you know the rest...
in the end WE are the forum.. even if things get more commercial for whatever reason .. you still need to have tasty forum to keep 'em coming back for more.

So Cool!!!!!

Some person looking for a fight. And me with nothing to do!!!

OK you first, my mom's name is Joy, My dad's is Doug - and I'm German (born in America). That should be enough info for your first salvo - (this way you don't have to make anonymous "Old Timer" attacks).

Let's go!

---Edited to replace "Jerk" with "Person"
it was uncalled for.

The his is a her , Einstein !
IT's amazing, offering somebody a fight pubclicly should be reason enuff for the mods to plug him out for a while. Keep him away from me, please !🙄

I like the way conversation and feedback is flowing here and I like the fact that Jorge is responding to the positive input by making some of the suggested changes. I know that RFF is different now than it was regarding the ad space and cost of the classifieds, but let me just add a couple thoughts as I have them, no more right or wrong than anyone else's.

I actually think Jorge has in the past, perhaps not concise and in one place, told us what was going on and what drove some of the changes. RFF eats up a lot of bandwidth and cost a significant amount of money to keep online. I recall several times his posting this information, and I suggest that he has not said this more as to not sound like a nag to the membership. He has made changes to RFF which will help him deffer the rising costs of keeping us online.

Three changes have been made to RFF to address this, the most personal one being volunteery.

We share a niche hobby for which there are retailers who cater to us. We see there ads on our pages, and also enjoy their input in our conversations and sponsorship of contests. Yes they have space to sell there wares, but they also help keep us informed and aware of the most current news and products of our interest. We are also very fortunate that all of them are very reputable and willing to share these things with us.

Secondly the old classified section is gone. I won't debate right, wrong or ebay, not ebay. But as someone who has sold quite a bit of stuff here at RFF, I personally feel that (and have made a donation after a group of sales) paying to place an FS ad is a small contribution potentially compared to the price of the items being sold. I guess I look at it more like placing an ad in a local newspaper than ebay, but now a days there may not be much of a difference in reality.

The third change is the one that most concerns me because of the perception that it has created, not so much the fact of the change. Jorge has made some additional features available to individuals who choose to make a contribution to the site. These contributions are very important to paying the bills and greatly appreciated, but in no way are required and we each have the right and necessity of making the best decision for ourselves of what we can do or want to do. It is every one's duty to respect these decisions. What pains me is that there is a perception that this creates a two tiered membership. This is a perception by some who have contributed, and some who have chosen not too. I feel strongly that the most important contribution all of us make to RFF is the sharing of our thoughts and words in the forums. I hope that time will prove this out and these perceptions will go away.

OK, thank you for letting me ramble a little. I probably should have just posted the one sentence that I think is important. But if that truly is the way things are then perhaps the other things that go along with it will just become background noise.

we do have a spellchecker already, what is that ABC checkmark thingie on the top right?

If you're talking about the Compose Post window I haven't got an 'ABC checkmark thingie on the top right'.

There is an AA button top left, but that's called 'Remove Text Formatting'.

If you want more of a sales and auction site, then do it and do it right. Start out by charging less than Ebay does, and let the user base here bootstrap the idea and pass the word. I think the chance is excellent to build on this as an opportunity to get the reputation as "The Clean Camera Sales or Auction Site!"

Then use the proceeds of such to fund the forum and gallery sides of the site, the use of which will grow. I can envision a commercial sales site and a user community centered site supporting each other quite well. The buzzword-compliant term here might be Synergy. 🙂

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, Jorge, but I sure get the perception (and others do too, I can cut-paste e-mail if you want) that you want something with a positive cash flow.

I can envision a win-win here if the cards are played right, and I think there's the chance to get what you want without alienating the user base.

I can't agree more, though I don't know if I have the energy or desire to make this more of a marketplace. I may change my mind tomorrow so no big deal. The bottom line is that you are right, this can be a win-win, and honestly, if Jorge makes a buck from RFF, good for him. He has given something pretty important to many of us there is nothing wrong with his getting a benefit from that.

I have an ABC check mark thingy, top right of the gray text box above the smiley faces. It looks like you have to download the tool. I use a spell checker on my Google toolbar.

He is on ignore, and so next time there won't be any answer .

Fitzi, we appreciate your comments and simply ask that you do just as you indicate you will. Kim is just asking both parties, regardless of who started it. No assignment of fault or blame, just a request. Thank you for your understanding.

Yes, I've looked into it and I think you're right. Thank you for a fast and accurate response.

Everybody here loves english

Everybody here loves english

Perhaps we should decide that this forum goes on in spanish for two weeks it would
give others opportunity to contribute in their own language and after this two weeks in French. I am sure it is the solution. In Belgium less than 20ù of the population can say something in english. If we do not do something it means that these 80% never will be taken into account.
Most of the americans consider that the others have to speak thir own language and accept the Irfak War to put fuel in their big car ! I n Africa a whole family could leave for one year with the money for one full benzin in 4*4 car !!!

More seriously, the future is to have a RFForum in Chinese !!!🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

There are already several chinese and japanese forums. When I was setting up my Fujica website, quite a bit of info came from sites over there with the owners permission and vice versa. At the end of the day, this is an english site and it's purpose is to discuss RF cameras and not the politics of world finance. 😉

Seriously

Seriously

I was a bit provocative.
To be more specific .... on photography, if you look at a Varex (or VX) IIa from exakta and you compare this to even the best cameras from now like EOS5D, it gives you the feeling that there was more "quality" in the old days.... Imagine in 10 years will you buy an Eos 5D ? 50 years after the old cameras are still able to get you the best results ...
But the market is pushing each six months new things, and then photograpphy has los a bit of the mystery an d respect .... It has become a normal product like a Coke, it was not so in the 50's....
I think this has an influence on our forum. A lot of shops are closing....

How about switching to German for a few weeks or French or Swahili ? :bang:
