What have you just sent for repair ?

A 50mm Summilux ASPH that I hated using because it had the wobbles and focus stiction between 2-3 meters.

I will report back how well the repair went ... in January ( estimate Leica NJ )

I recently sent a Minolta SRT101 to Gerry's camera for a complete tune up, CLR, etc. for $47 plus shipping of $8 and now it's as good as the day it was mfg. in Japan.

A YashicaMat 124G for a CLA from Mark Hama. The camera was very dirty, but showed little wear. I'm psyched to get it back!

Last Friday I took delivery of my Zeiss Biogon 35mm silver lens for Leica. It had a dent of the focusing ring and it came back CLA'ed and repaired by Steve's Camera Service, out in CA.

I'm planning on sending my two M5 bodies for a checkup (weird metering) if they don't pass the new battery test. But first, I have a few lenses that need either CLA or some kind of repair. They'll go to Don in WI, so it'll take a while before I report back about them. ;)

A Leica MR-4 meter that had started giving erratic readings. I have sent it to Knoch Messgeraete GmbH in Germany and the repair estimate looks expensive, about Euro300 including shipping and 19%VAT.

Nikon S2 in desperate need of a CLA.
M240 was sent back to be checked on about a faulty port.

Ugh

Nikon SB-600, totally dead, sent to Midwest Camera Repair.
Fixed repair price of $97, plus 2-way shipping is cheaper than buying a used one.
This is the first time I've sent anything to Midwest.

I have recently (over the past year or so) had a few early Nikkors and Leica LTM / M lenses serviced - mostly the usual stuff, dry lube on helicals needing servicing and excessive flare due to fogging on inner elements of Leicas. Amongst their number has been an early Nikkor 180mm f2.8, a 105mm f4 Micro Nikkor and a Tele Elmarit 90mm f2.8, a Summarit 50mm f1.5 and 50mm f1.8 Canon LTM.

I have also AI converted a few Nikkors myself personally. The actual AI conversion process itself is easy - carefully filing a notch in a specific location on the rear ring of lens is all that is required. Disassembling the lens to get at the ring requires care especially as lenses often have slight different build and hence the disassembly is different for each. The most difficult and potentially time consuming task is reassembling everything in a manner that makes sure the lens and specifically the aperture works as it should and no screws or other bits have been lost is most taxing I find. But it just involves care, a disinclination to panic plus trial and error when required. Experience helps too of course and now that I have done a few it is getting easier as I now know what can go wrong and how to get around it. I have personally modified the following Nikkors: a 135mm f2.8, a 50mm f2, a 50mm f1.4 a 105mm f2.5 and am about to take on a 28mm f3.5. Ahhh........happy days!

My F2 w/DE-1 went in to Authorized Photo Service here in Chicago for a complete rebuild. Shutter was messed up, FFD was off, light seals were leaking, mirror box had damage, and no current was getting from the battery chamber to the rest of the camera.

$200 later, she's got a number of new parts, has been set back to factory spec, and she's as good as new.

Best,
-Tim

I sent a Summicron 50 v.III to Youxin for servicing. The focus action had become uneven from dry lube. Lens is perfect now.

Can you send it to the US and have it returned to Germany without paying taxes? If so, there's George Milton in Hollywood, California. He repairs these things for a lot less... and does a reliable work.

Thanks for posting this! I have just begun the search for someone to do a CLA on my F2. Among other things it needs new seals, foam bumper for the mirror, etc. I gather Authorized Photo did a great job on yours? Do you happen to have contact info? If not, I'll do a search...

Thanks,

Mark

I am just about to take my Oly 35RD in - not only the usual sticky shutter problem, but it is not firing on "A" at all.

I sent in my 35RD for a full disassembly this summer. More recently, I sent in a Minolta Autocord for CLA. It seems that $130 plus shipping is the basic rate for fixing camera with a leaf shutter these days.
