What I finally decided to do with my gear when moving to Israel

Some of you may remember an earlier post, when I asked about the best way to get my photo gear to Israel in a permanent move. The consensus was that I should keep most of it with me/on me, and not check it. I don't think even I realized how much I had. I decided to liquidate everything I wasn't actually using through Tony Rose at Popflash. Approximately eight 40 pound boxes later, I realized it would have been totally impractical to bring my camera gear in any safe and secure way.

I am now left with just a Lumix G1 and all associated lenses, a 75mm f2.5 Leica Summarit with m4/3rds adapter and a Leica Dlux-4. Do I regret disposing of my gear? Not a bit. I now have a purpose in my photographic life, photo blogging, and I have gear suitable to that purpose. I also use a Flip camera for video as well as the video capabilities of the Dlux4. I am getting to know and master my tools as I never would have flitting from camera to camera, system to system. In fact, it may turn out that my iPhone camera will become my most frequently used tool.

In praise of Tony Rose:

I can't say enough good things about Tony in this process. I just basically packed everything as safely as possible and shipped it off to him. No inventory list, no nothing. He very patiently inventoried everything, a herculean task itself, listed it on eBay, and very carefully tracked the sales and paid me as items sold. I could never have done this without him.

There are still a number of very nice items for sale here.
Not yet listed are several beautiful RF items: My spectacular R-D1 with custom green Luigi case and green mini-soft release, a beautiful gem, and my M5 with custom black Luigi case, my favorite M film camera and in tip-top shape. If you are interested you should probably contact Tony directly because I don't think they will last long once they hit the 'Bay.

Ira

Good luck in over there in this small great land The Negev is not the worthest place for a new life.

Ohhhh Mitzpe Ramon is pretty nice. I spent the whole of last year in Israel and had the time of my life. Down in the crater (actually a dried up seabed) there some really great little spots, old mining equipment etc. Though I'm sure you'll now be exploring much more than I did.

Ira,

Congrats on "Normalizing" you stuff and best of luck on starting your new life. I have to agree with you on Tony, he is one of the best out there. I too have come to trust him without question.
