What is Hasselblad up to?

Only less expensive than the other cameras in the line. It's quite a system, I use an H3 at work. That true focus stuff makes me wonder if they are going to add a speed lens to the line. Improving the focus for shooting with shallow depth of field has to be aimed at the fashion shooters who are a big part of their customer base.

A lens with a large aperture. F2 is it for now, which isn't so bad for MF, but maybe there is more in the offing.

Interesting technology, that True Focus...

Other camera brands have the cheap solution of multiple AF-Fields. They have True Focus.

Doug -- I don't think there is anything wrong with them pricing the gear high... This camera will only be bought by well-established professionals, rental studios and wealthy enthusiasts. I certainly don't begrudge them it, and as I said, I went that route myself at one time. But I think the way it was marketing as a game changer is definitely not the case.

As for using the equipment, I agree...
When it comes to opening up high resolution photography to younger photographers, I think it is more realistic to look at cameras like the Canon 5DII and Sony A900.

But anyway, I like Hasselblad a lot (one of my favorite cameras is the 203FE), but I think the marketing people here got a bit carried away with this one.

I agree. Pros look at ROI (return on investment). 20K ends up being about $30 per working day over a 4 year lease or $25 per working day on an outright purchase. If the camera makes you $500 per day, then it's a great deal. However, a young pro might better afford a $5 or $10 per day camera, or better yet, a cash camera when jobs are few and far between.

Another thing to consider, try getting a $20-$30k lease when you're just starting out. Banks will laugh and leasing companies will want 20-25% on their money with huge downs and buyouts. If Hasselblad had its own leasing company and courted young photographers that would be truth in advertising!
