Hi,

I sometimes see Nikkor lens mount (a few LTM) with a serial number at the back. What is this number? It does not match the lens serial number.

Any info would be appreciated. THANKS!

Per Rotoloni, "The Complete Nikon Rangefinder System", 2007, p. 216:

(referring to the number on the back of 3 example 50/2 LTM lenses) "Their meaning is not known at this time and the BM lenses are not so marked, only the SM optics."

Best,

Roland.

Some suggest the number in the back is the actual serial number matched to that particular lens.
But then some refer to the old Nippon Kogaku serial number system, meaning the first few digits represent the year and month of manufacture/design.

I wonder what the head-bartender thinks?

numbers on the back of lens

numbers on the back of lens

i was told that the 1st 3 numbers were the date, last 4 were the serial number of the mount , nikkor-h 8111931 has 9061296,
906 being june 1949, sn: 1296, the lense mount sn numbers bounce around, lens 8111959 has number 9061214, 8111940 has 9061186,

1st 3 digits

the 1st 3 are the date 906. june of 1949, i have not seen the numbers on the 5cm f3.5, and i don't have a 5cm 1.4 to see if they have them, maybe someone else has one of the other lenses.
