What is the overall opinion of the M-E?

As to the aesthetic quandry...

Could the top and bottom plates be replaced with black or silver ones? How difficult and expensive would this be to do?

Another thing that would help the aesthetics (IMO) is switching the dial/shutter/etc to black instead of silver. I assume one could do this as well?

Replacement top and bottom plates will be over $1000+. I believe I was quoted $950 alone for the top plate.

Switching the dial would be well less then $50.

In person its sweet

In person its sweet

Like others that have posted above I thought I was pretty indifferent to the press release photos , in fact I didn't really like it that much . However when I saw one in person I was actually surprised. The colour combination works.

If you are in the market for a new camera ( 3 year warranty ! ) , and want the CCD sensor , then dont be affraid, go for it. ( However there are some 'bargain' used M9's around at the mo.)

Good luck.

My Leica M-E

My Leica M-E

I have one and its my first Leica. I'm very happy with the camera and since this is my first Leica I guess I don't miss the frame line selector as my 50 Lux is always on the camera and the widest lens I have right now. So I could play around all day with the frame selector but what good would it do for me?

Its has the same guts as the M9 so its not any different in that regards.

That is nice, Duane! Maybe I can make it up to Asheville this Spring or later and check yours out! 🙂

One sales person said that Leica was discontinuing the M-E in the future...
Until Leica says so it is all very very hypotethical as there are no inside source in Leica that can confirm it.

So take it with a huge grain of salt.

+1

Like most people here or anywhere else for that matter I have zero info on if or when Leica will stop producing the M-E. But unless its turning out to be a complete flop can't see the logic behind even bring it out instead of just doing a price reduction on the M9 if they only intended to sell the M-E for such a short period of time.

It's not only one vendor statement.

1. Leica is a very small company.
2. They have always produced in batches.
3. If one item doesn't sell well, it's likely that they will not keep the production running for much longer and rather sell their stock.
4. The M-E seems to be easily available, thus not really well-asked for.

It's kind of logical, isn't it?
But I hope that those rumours are wrong, of course.

Just wondering whilst awaiting yet another appointment with the blood-sucking vampire known as "the lab".😛

The M-E is an aesthetic quandry for me as I have yet to see one in person and I am a BP person anyway. But disregarding that...Is the M-E with a 3-year Mack Warranty at $5400USD from Adorama a better buy than a new M9 at $5999? Or even a used M9?

What is the concensus on the M-E vs. the M9?😕

to me its a stripped down M9 with fewer features at a more expensive than used M9 price to get rid of the overstock of M9 sensors now that M10 production has started.
