What is the Red led on the front of an Olympus XA for?

Its not a focus beam because its manual focus so what is it?

Hi,

That's right; you get a bleep and a flash with the battery check and a series of bleeps and flashes when the self timer is in use. The bleeps sound like a whine to me...
