What is "user" condition?

If a 'professional' seller describes something as 'used' it sometimes looks as if it has been 'used' to knock a nail into a wall!

Sometimes but not always. The 35 I refer to above was described as "battered" by the seller, who is a trader. The photos were poor, but I bid low and won the lens for a very low price. After a CLA by Steve Choi it is apparently good for another 30 years.
