I have a Leica (new style that came with my M6) strap on my M3, pretty nice. I like the Domke Gripper straps too.

IF i were to use a neck strap, the domke gripper would likely get my business.

You might laugh, or even declare it a sacrilege, but I'm a practical guy
The best one I've found so far comes from a Sony video camera
It's strong, but light and soft, easily wraps around the wrist, and never gets in the way, unlike some others I have...
Photo attached as a proof...

Well, as I said, I'm a practical guy, and I don't really care what it says -as long as it functions well
Eeeeek - just noticed it's my 800th post... Calls for a celebration - if only I wasn't down by some *#%$&#*!

Thanks, joe - I'm feeling better already - just arranged for Ralph's X-700 to take an overseas trip to visit sunny Croatia
As for "sony", I guess I even like that kind of provocation, gross inappropriateness, a poke in the eye, whatever
Call it a prank of a kind....
And, actually, it really feels good - much better than usual standard camera straps I have....
I'm even thinking of getting another one or two

i see there will no satisfaction here for me today...
glad you're feeling better and congrats on the new kit.

Upstrap strap with their destructive keyrings removed, replaced with the excellent Leica attachments with the slippery, poorly executed Leica strap removed.

The last strap on my last M was an old Philips CD walkman (one of those big early ones) attached with bronica buckles. Worked very well, the camera hit the floor only twice the whole time I had it

I really like Luigi Crescenzi's "hybrid strap". It is a leather strap with suede on the neckpad. There is no metal involved, so no scratching or anything, and it is very soft and easy to wrap around as a wrist strap (I more often use it this way unless I need to change lenses or film etc). It looks beautiful as well.
For heavier cameras, I love Tamrac's padded leather quick release straps. Once they break in, they are very soft and comfortable enough for even very heavy cameras (well, not 4x5! Any heavier 35mm or MF is ok with it).

Well, my favourite is nor really practical nor adjustable. Very stylish though. It is a chrome snake-chain. I have one on both the CLE and the M2 in her sexy new red skin.

Ouch! I think that would pull the hairs out of the back of my neck...

Yes it definitely will, but I (almost) never carry a camera around my neck. Always on a shoulder. I only have one neck and two cameras can get confusing.
Anyway, the metal cord is a wonderful toy if you are not shooting but waiting.
Functionality is not everything.
My Minolta XD which I use for macro and big telephoto work has a very comfy neoprene wide strap, but that combo gets heavy! M2 is the heaviest rangefinder I've got and the strap has not been a problem yet. Before the metal strap she had a similar black plastic cord, that worked perfectly.
I find that a strap that is a lot bigger gets in the way in a bag.
