What is your Leica M dream lens?

dream list:
1. 35/2 Summicron V1
2. 35/2.8 Summaron (own it)
3. 50/2 Summicron DR
4. 50/2 APO Summicron ASPH (not really, i just want to see what it's capable of)

My dream lenses are not what I thought they would be when I started.

Like many I used to lust for the fastest glass I could get my hands on, and I bought many of them.

Then I bought the Null Serie reproduction and absolutely fell in love with the way that Anistigmat 50mm f/3.5 draws. I knew that I may lose the magic by removing that lens from the body.

So I found a very nice Elmar M 50mm f3.5 and found it to also be a dream to work with. Not fast but very subtle and quite beautiful when I catch the light just right.

Another dream lens is my collapsible Elmar M 90mm f/4.

On one hand these are nothing special, on the other both of these are classic Leitz glass with their own way of drawing the light. They are really only waiting for someone to work with them again.
I sort of feel that way myself. On my M6 I'm perfectly happy with my late Elmar 50mm and my cheapie Elmar f4 90mm.

I have no desire for faster/bigger/more expensive glass.
Actually, I prefer my 1940 111c and my period Elmars 3.5cm and 5cm.
Slow, slow, slow. And inexpensive. But a total joy to use.

I've been forcing myself to get acquainted with my Zeiss 35mm f/2 Biogon, as I spent most of my time shooting a 50 cron in a previous life. After some diligence I put my 50 lux asph back on and really feel that 50mm is my favorite focal length. Perhaps I'll give the 35 another whirl sometime, but for now the 50 has reignited my love affair with photography. Unfortunately the noctilust stirrings are coming back. Maybe I'll head to NYC some weekend and rent one to satisfy the curiosity.

75mm f1.4...best Leica lens I've ever used..
But wont get it..
Too expensive now..and my F1.0 noct..makes it redundant..
And there is the cheaper 80mm f1.4 R ..that is pretty much the same thing for 1/2 the price..

It soo does!!

90/4 Macro-Elmar.

I have a feeling it would so ROCK on a Fuji X body......

An original "Anastigmat" as attached to the Leica 1 (A) I handled but rejected when, at around 1962 when I was 15, a neighbour showed me a trunk full of technical stuff and told me I could have anything I wanted. I took the radio parts instead. What I didn't take got dumped.

About 30 years later I saw the word "anastigmat" again. Oh Boy!!

I don't need it. Or if I do, I already have it: the 50 C Sonnar. The stuff of dreams.
Currently dreaming of the new 28 f5.6 Summaron, but not my dream lens necessarily.
I suppose that my dream lens is really that 50 APO Summicron. I might seriously get one, one day. I thought I wanted the 50 Summilux ASPH, but with the C Sonnar, a Summicron v4 and the little Elmar M 50 I don't need it, and now don't want it either. Like one member of RFF who has this in his signature, I defer to Mr Spock: “After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but is often true.”

Used to be the 21mm and 75mm Summilux.
Now that I use the VM Ultron 21mm I am happy, and it does what I would dream the 21mm Summilux would do. The 75mm Summilux - elusive, but I think when it would come down to it, for any application of that lens I would most likely prefer a medium format system.
Perhaps that is the nature of dream lenses, that they are out of reach, not really needed and "a dream" as long as we want them, but do not use them and get the reality check?
