Leica LTM What Leica is this?

Hey.
I was hanging around town and spot an antic shop. Inside I spot this:

A black/gold(brass?) Leica serial number 0947 and gold (brass?) Elmar 50mm f/3.5 lens. The aperture closes to f/18.
The net says 1925 Leica I Ed: 1st production...
Is this a real thing?
Looked to me that the shutter button is not original but all the speeds seems to work perfectly and the shutter curtain looked in great shape.
Any thoughts?

Fyodor Edmundovitch Dzerzhinsky strikes again. The first Leicas didn't have RFs anyway, though of course they were updated: when I saw 139 it was a crudely synched II. For the clincher, check the cam follower inside the lens mount. Leica = roller, Fed = triangular rigid thing.

Beware of antique shops - I was fooled once with an old milk bottle in a beautiful blue color and quite inexpensive. Turns out that these show up on Ebay all the time. If one looks closely, there is no groove to hold the paper top that these old bottles had.

On the Leica fakes - I was in Moscow about the time the fake Leicas first appeared. I was going to buy one, just for fun, but went for a couple of Russian enameled boxes instead. Turns out I made a good choice - the little boxes are very beautiful and now worth quite a bit.

OTOH, the misspelling makes it a more amusing example of a Leica fake. So buy if cheaper than a FED or Zorki, assuming you're a collector.

I hear you. In antic shop I usually buy small presents etc. for friends, this was one "Leica" I would never buy - not even for the asked price of 2500 Euros!!! 😀
Just got interested what kind of stuff is that. I am not good of recognizing photo fake stuff but also I am very happy with the real Leicas I have 😉

PS OTOH, they did get the black headed screws right around the lens (holding the cover to the body). Or was it just dirt.

I saw one of these on the Antiques Roadshow TV programme, the "expert" said it was a German fake but worth the £260 he paid for it!! I recognised it straight away and nearly fell of my chair laughing.

Quick fake spotting trick: the raised "bezel" around the front viewing window has a "Step" on the corner nearest the rewind knob on real Leicas.

The Soviet versions have a full rectangle ( no "step") bezel , as is the case with this particular camera.

If that sells for 2500 Euros, mine will be going in the de-chroming bath quick-smart! Other than the poor engravings and brass finish, it's a genuine FED 1 from around 1939.
