What lens hood to buy for Nikkor 8.5 cm f/2?

Advice sought on which lens hood I should buy for my new lens acquisition, the Nikkor 8.5cm f/2 lens. The filter size is 48mm which seems to be an unusual size.

If all you want is a serviceable hood, you might try HeavyStar. I got a 49mm hood-with-cap from them for a Jupiter-9 (also 85mm f/2). If they have no 48mm hood you'll need a step-up ring. My Serenar 85/2, incidentally, also has a 48mm filter thread.

I'm also looking for a hood for my new Nikkor 85/2 (not yet arrived). I would guess the Canon hoods are more common and cheaper than the Nikkors. I think the Canon 50/1.4 also has a 48mm filter thread, so I bet that hood would do OK too.

i use my HS-2 which is really for the 50/2, but it works fine.

The F-Mount 85/2 uses 52mm hoods, same as the 50/2.

The Rangefinder 85/2 uses 48mm hoods, same as the Canon Serenar 85/2.

The Canon S-50 hood fits perfectly, is a push on hood with a clamp. They are probably more than the Nikon Hoods.

The Nikon hood is a two-piece, with a holder for Series VII filters. Nice, but hard to find without a lens attached to it. Mine never leaves the lens.

The 48->49 step-up and 49mm hood is what I use for the Serenar 85/2. The cheapest solution.

As Brian said, the original Nikon hood consists of 48mm/SeriesVII adapter and hood. You can buy generic items for both.

However, if you go the Canon route, I suggest the T-50. Usually cheaper than S-50, and deeper. Also takes Series VII filters if I remember right.

You can substitute Series VII filters with 49mm.

Hoya and Vivitar made generic 48mm hoods that work well. I am using one on a Komura 80/1.8. See for instance 170482317921@ebay.

You might like to look at eBay item 230450166955. A metal push-on hood with a leather case would be roughly the same vintage as the Nikkor. Only problem is, it's 5mm shorter than the 35mm long hoods meant for 85mm (and 100mm, if Canon) lenses. This is what Roland means when he says that the T-50 is better than the S-50.
