I'm using a nice FED 5B. Some people call this model "5V" because the Cyrillic "B" is the "V" sound. But where does that "B" or "V" comes from? is that a word meaning something?

I've looked quite hard at the 'Net but could not find an explanation. Not really losing sleep on the "B" but what the heck does it mean? Is there a word for "sucker" in Russian?

I know it's used to distinguish the meterless version (5B) from the version with a light meter (5). Whether it just means "second model" or is short for an actual word, I don't know.

I need some Russian speakers to chime in - here are a few B words to get thinkers going. I fear the true meaning is less elevated.

великий - great
верный - faithful true
высший - highest (Hardly!)
вечный - eternal
