What paper to use?

Enjoy your time in the darkroom...
If you're making and using test strips allow them to dry before adjusting for the final exposure time...what looks great in the tray will darken a bit later...it's called drydown...

Once you know how to dry it, the Ilford MGIV fb glossy paper is the best there is.

FB snob too.
Why spend all that time on your negs - from exposure thru development just to 'bung' it through a print processor?
I learnt on RC and now adore FB.
It requires more time and effort but that's what your negs deserve - don't they?
FB responds better to toning and different developers to.

PS - I have a box of 7x5 RC pearl for little album prints ;-)

There is so much to learn about printing, I would not waste time with fiber until you get really good with RC. Fiber dries darker; you have to learn to print lighter that you want it so when it dries it looks the way you want it to look. This is true for RC also, but not to the same degree. And RC papers have improved just as fiber papers have gotten worse, with less silver in them. So the difference is less that it used to be, though of course fiber is "better."

I can only add that when my students switch from RC to fiber, they become much worse at printing. It takes commitment to make good fiber prints and a lot of time. I would rather look at good RC prints than mediocre fiber prints

Collectors will often not buy RC prints...

Oh man I miss my darkroom. Moved home at the start of the year and am still trying to get a new one up and running.
I've pages of negatives of my daughter like this. She's 9 1/2 months now and is doing the standing up at every opportunity.
The walls at home are biased as my d/room was running when our son was like this.
