My online reading list has become a little tired, and wonder what you guys and gals read ?

My meagre list at the moment runs to TOP (the online photographer) and not too much else. Sometimes I peek in at the 500px blog, and sometimes also the lensrental blog, but it seems things went downhill with my ability to keep track of varying blogs after google killed their rss reader and I never located myself an alternative.

Am interested in what the interesting and diverse rff populace check in on online..

That LensRental blog had some good techy stuff and he is a good writer as well.

Blogging ability and photography ability have been shown to be related in an inverse equation... if they have the time to blog then they aren't very good photographers (i.e. Rockwell, Reichman, Hobby, etc.) I can't find any evidence to disprove this theorem ;-p Even TOP has turned into an equipment and sales orientated device... the rest of the posts are swipes from PetaPixel.

What I don't get is how they are hauling in $2-300K per year and yet their blogs look like they did them with Dreamweaver/frames and table cells in 1998 and never redesigned anything....

Zack Arias had some good posts but he got busy and stopped. Chase Jarvis writes for the third-grade level, although I doubt he actually writes his own blog.

A Photo Editor has a good post from time to time but he often has buried marketing messages and you want to pass on whatever Jonathan Blaustein bloviates.

Feature Shoot can be tedious but sometimes there is interesting work there.

The landscape changes frequently and good blogs don't last forever....

I've taken to reading some of the Adobe blogs like Julianna Kost - lots of stuff on using Photoshop and LightRoom that I can't learn all at once...like the little daily chunks.

Cool, I see some familar names like A Photo Editor. Must refind my old feeds and see what else I'd forgotten about.

Agree about blogs being hit and miss sometimes, as mentioned elsewhere, it's not easy to keep generating good content consistently.

I know what you mean also with TOP, Frank. I like the discussions there, but the frequent enough requests to buy through the links and 'help keep the lights on' can seem a bit much at times. Still I'm glad it's there.

Also agree about photography writers not being the best photographers either, but am ok with that, and usually what I seek out in editorial-style photography blogs are some thought provoking thoughts or ideas I can internalise and then use to fuel my own photography.

I also like the occasional links to be found on rff, especially to esoteric or irregular posts, which I definitely would not have found otherwise.

Anyway, keep the recommendations coming, and I will do some digging myself and see what I can add also..

I remembered an old post I'd made somewhere else years ago, with a few interesting blogs. Not sure if all are still alive, as have not checked in on them in quite a while, but sometimes the archives can be great places to dig through even should a blog no longer be updated, I find.

In any case, few for the list:

Conscientious Extended (http://jmcolberg.com/weblog/extended/). A strand of Joerg Colberg's Conscientious website, and where he shares his extended thoughts on a range of photographic topics.

Photos and Stuff (http://photothunk.blogspot.ie/). A very thought provoking blog on photography and the process/ act of creating images/ photographs.

Mull It Over (http://www.mullitover.cc/). Jonathan Cherry's interviews with photographers on their photography.

Still Searching (http://blog.fotomuseum.ch/). A very interesting blog, exploring the deeper themes and aspects of photography.

Feel free to chime in with some of the interesting online sources you check in on 🙂

A few I like:

Strobist (David Hobby) - I'm sure you know of this one. I like his BTS posts more than the pure hints and tips ones. http://www.strobist.blogspot.ca/

Sara's Journal (Sara Lando) - Infrequent posts, but engaging. Commercial and fashion, but refreshing takes on both, along with profiles of interesting projects and some great tips (hint: her post about DIY print shipping packaging is excellent). An occasional contributor to Strobist, too. http://www.saralando.com/blog-en/

Zack Arias - commercial photography and lots of X100S related stuff these days. Infrequent posts but excellent when they appear. http://zackarias.com/blog/

Even better, Photography Q&A (Zack Arias) - tumblr to be sure, but full of nuggets of advice covering all kinds of things. There's an honest-to-goodness paper book version, too. http://zarias.tumblr.com/

You know, another similar source of good info is easily found on itunes - podcasts. There are about 8-10 that are still updating regularly and the audio only ones are great to listen to while driving...the video ones are mostly quite worthwhile as well.

Some interesting stuff there.

Yes, thought of podcasts are a good idea. I used to like several a lot, but these days find I don't have enough time to indulge them, whereas I can skim an article meant to be read.

Given the thread title here may not lead too many people to come and add podcasts here, I started a specific thread for podcasts: http://rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2226499#post2226499
