What pictures would you take?

With the Pope's health failing there is a part of me that wishes I could be at the Vatican, part of the worshiping masses, with my camera. I would hope that I could capture the love and caring that his followers are sharing in a way to honor his remarkable life. In my mind I see images of hands holding Rosary Beads, followers holding hands bowing their heads in prayer, men, woman and children passing by the symbols of their faith with common thoughts of another.

There are events in history that are rear. Moments of both mourning and renewal, things that have meaning deeper than our normal life's experiences. In a way, I wish I could participate by capturing this one.

Have you ever had the desire to be part of a moment in history in the same way?

Funny, today I thought of being there as well, taking the same pictures! I am sure there are some candle light vigils as well.

It's just enough for me knowing that he is in the Vatican, knowing that he is the Pope, and living through the week of Easter as the Pope. It annoyed me that some suggested that he step down.

Truly one of the great men of all times; an inspiration to all regardless of faith. It is sad, yet in another way rejoicing when you consider his rich, full life and his belief that he is now on his way to meet his lord -- those thoughts take some of the sadness away for me.

It never crossed my mind to be in Rome at this moment, but I wanted very badly to photograph the aftermath of the recent Tsunami -- in hopes of capturing the impact it has had on the lives in that area.

I think it is the hope that goes along with the sadness that is interesting me, or would inspire me. I don't see myself as a great photographer or artist but I feel I can capture something with which I have a connection.

The sheer terror of the Tsunami is difficult for me to grasp (maybe I don't want to as a way to cope), so I don't think I could do a good job with that.

My daughter learned to rid her bike from lat tuesday. Today we took a loooooong ride, not just over pavement, cycling lanes and in the forest but also on the street with cars going this way and that. For me this was a historic day, and I took photos (with the Eos 300D!).

Historic events are only historic if you view them in that way. Granted, we don't get to see a new Pope being inaugurated (is that what it's called?) every day but I couldn't care less (no offence meant to those who do care). For me my girl's first day out on the street riding her bicycle is much more historic.

i'm guessing many communities are marking the occasion in some way. special prayer sessions, masses or vigils.
maybe that's the next best route to go?

No offense taken Remy. You are right, "historic" can be a very personal thing. Here is my son picking out his new bike just a few weeks ago.
