what product should i (or someone) make?

my personal wish list:
- *INEXPENSIVE* digital back adaptors for medium format cameras. (say, Bronica ETR?)
- simple, classy wooden grip for M-bodies

what kind of grip do you want? something like the alpa cameras? would it be ok if the grip was modeled after the hassy xpan? it's on the shallow side, but it looks so nice:

that would be an interesting design problem. what would it look like? to make the film run vertically, what if it was shaped like the zeiss ikon kolibri and fuji instax mini cameras?

I imagine it could be made more max 9 cm tall in this configuration, if space was used wisely, or a lot lower but fatter in the manner of a Hasselblad back. In the tall configuration with a leaf shutter, maybe the RF/VF could be on both sides rather than above the upper spool, with the linkage in front?

I make a lot of my own photo gadgets if they don't already exist.
However I've been having real problems with these three photo essentials, and perhaps you might like to give one or two of them a shot:
Time Machine
Anti-Gravity Device
Cloak of Invisibility

for the heavy duty trimmer, i was imagining something like a big fingernail clipper, or a film splicer:

and for the light duty version, something like the leica ablon or even as simple as the fuji film leader trimmer that john sypal has:

yeah, i think i'll have to split up the ideas into short-term and long-term goals.

that is really cool! you could be the aki-asahi of lens tabs.

I never knew of that FujiFilm leader trimmer, looks awesome! If you could put one of those back into production that'd be sweet.
The problem with the ABLON is that you also need a knife or scissors. A simple one operation solution would be better.

Thanks re:lens tabs, like you I find it fun to create something, especially when it's appreciated by the end user. With modern software and 3D printing, it's really easy to make custom one offs, especially once you have the base design (things like changing the radius of curvature and tab width are one step changes).

:D

those would be the ultimate photo gadgets, wouldn't they?

maybe i don't need to make a poll. it looks like the film leader trimmer is the easiest and most needed.

Copy FOOKH lens hoods for 35mm Summaron. Originals in top condition are around £100. I couldn't find any copies on the internet. Try also LTM body and rear lens caps.

I can think of no single product which would have a bigger potential impact on the hobby of photography (outside of reintroducing Kodachrome) than a new source of selenium photocells suitable for the hundreds of thousands of nice cameras whose built in (i.e. convenient) meters don't work....and the availability of techs to wire them in.
The manucturing tech needed to fab selenium cells isn't quite diy in your kitchen, but it is not terribly complicated or labor and material intensive either.
No more would the photographic community need to endure the heartbreak of ads reading "meter responds to light but not tested for accuracy." No point in testing it, it's expired, passed on, as dead as Monty Python's parrot.
Some younger person with a yen to "make the world a better place" should get on this instead of working at the recycling center separating different colors of bottles.

A polyester-only, flat and short wrist strap.

The existing products are either leather or quite long. The polyester ones available are all braided cord types that lack flexibility...

You need to make a small and very low cost removable and non-intrusive and non marring way to attach a cold shoe to a Canon 7 camera.

The Canon original official factory cold-shoe attachments now cost more than the camera body.

Exactly like that. I'm a fan of shallow grips... the Nikon F3 is one of my favorite camera's to hold. Just a little bit of a grip to help orient the hand
