Been meaning to ask this for a long time.

Currently, I am working on photo documentaries in small towns and my work naturally requires a good deal of walking outdoors as well as indoor interviews with people. It is hot here in Georgia and very humid, so I generally just wear jeans, light shirt and some comfortable slip-ons but it is time to get some good comfortable shoes that go well with the casual photographer look, if that is a description. Also, any shoes that would work well in the Fall weather coming up in a couple of months...

Any recommendations from you PJ types and/or walkabout photogs?:)

In the summer months here in Sweden I usually wear canvas shoes like Van's, but this season I've taken exception to that type of rather uncomfortable and not very durable shoes... I've left my canvas wearing ways in favour of a pair of Red Wing Oxfords, probably the most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever worn, no matter how long the walk or on what surface I walk on.

Leather and only leather for me!

Much time in those damned joggers and some of the casual shoes I see people wearing and my feet start to get rejected by the rest of me. :D

These humble Redbacks are about ninety bucks here and have the best uppers and soles of anything I've ever worn. I have one pair for going out in and one pair for work! Life can be simple! :p

Keens are pretty well made and cut to be comfortable to my mangled, nasty old feet. I wear 17s and they make several models in that size!

Before that I wore a lot of New Balance but their quality control and design seem to have suffered the past few years.

I can attest to the Redbacks being sweet, durable shoes! I haven't worn them personally, but whilst travelling in Australia I stayed in a hostel where I befriended a fellow working as a bricklayer, every day he'd get back to his room with his shoes all dirtied up with mortar and mud, yet, when he returned from cleaning the work dust off of himself, the shoes would show surprisingly little sign of him ever laying a single brick.

I just wear flip flops! Or if you want to try something interesting, VivoBarefoot, I dislike walking a lot in shoes so they are the nearest thing to shoes that I like to use.

Haha ....You boys are so Practical ...;)

I'm in myFaux crocodile Ballet Flats or my 3 inch Calvin Klein Wedge Sandals....:p:p:p

Nike Air Force 1's, Air Jordan 1's, and Air Jordan 3's. Also Nike Dunks sometimes. I used to play basketball, but I messed up my knee. I still use basketball shoes though, I find them very comfortable. That said, I don't have apair of designated 'shooting shoes' :p

Here are my Nike Air Jordan 1 Phat Lows :D

Wearing mine now.

Picking up a camera is not dependent on what is on my feet. It could be flip-flops, Pumas, but if there is a lot of walking and carrying involved I have a pair of low cut Doctor Martins. They are steel-toe, in case I drop my Linhof's Rollex back, or if a parking car backs up over my foot. Not likely, but not impossible.

My biggest problem is finding ones that fit. I'm a bit on the small side, and with most mens shoes starting at size 7 or even 8, well, I need around a 6 or so. Sometimes a smallish 7 works, but not so often. (I usually end up buying womens running shoes if I can find non-pink ones for that...). I've got an old pair of Vasque Sundowners that have been my go-to shoes for long walks/hikes, it's getting about time to replace them though. For toss-on sneaks it's been adidas sambas, since those I can get in pretty much any size!

I've never thought of taking a specific pair of shoes out for shooting. Maybe because I have hobbit genes and can walk for miles and miles wearing my adidas superstar(s). but now that it's colder (8C-15C is out winter in Sao Paulo) I've been walking around with either some leather boots with ur inside that I bought while in Vail or some 10 year old Mephisto boots.

but when it's summer i just go out wearing flip flops. perfect for those insanely hot days in madrid, barcelona, greece, nyc...

Wearing mine now.

I used to worry a bit about how the arty wine and cheese set would handle my Redback boots at the gallery openings I shoot occasionally!

Then I figured ... "Hey I'm a photographer, I'm not expected to dress normally!"
