What the verdict on the gallery and classifieds?

All in all a disaster.... BTW..... somewhere you might want to define HOF...... which in an of itself seems like a waste of space....as does the 'who's online' I'm also not sure of the value of the 'hall of fame' concept..... even in the Gallery the same couple of photos of the beat up M2 and the woman in the black evening gown kept appearing incessently.

Two more suggestions, if i may..... Have a look at the Large Format Forum ...... Having a list of all the threads by most recent entry is unwieldy.... Most people don't want to read everything..... Why not have the main page group by sub forum? Also a lot of forums instead of having a 'most recent' button...... have a default of taking you to the 'last post read' Having to scroll down the page and pick which of the many pages of a topic you want to land on is unwieldy.

I do not like the look of the new gallery as I already wrote in the post #12 but much more disturbing is that I need a different password to comment the photo. And each time I need to reset that password (email etc..). I do really hope it is a transitory thing.

Says only twice...Listing fees are only only $7.00

I do hope that eventually we will find a way to be able to use gallery and classifieds using the same username and password as remainder of RFF. I don't necessarily mind setting that username/password twice. It should be made very clear the process too. I can see new members (potential members) getting confused and frustrated, and ultimately giving up on RFF if processes are laid out very clearly.
I was able to see some classifieds when I visit RFF landing page. I thought they looked fine. I agree with a previous post that it would be nice to have some additional info such as Location, Tax, Shipping (seller doesn't always make it clear in description) and so on....much like the old classifieds.

Haven't visited the gallery yet. I'm afraid of the whole "new password" business.

My most honest reply: Bummer. The old format was logical and easy to use. What happened to the old listings that were still current? As you may gather, I don't like it.

Today I uploaded 3 pictures to the new Gallery. There was no place I could see where I could input the camera type, lens type, film type and ISO, exposure information or anything else at the time of upload.

So then once the pictures were uploaded, I click on each picture and the panel below the picture says:
- Camera not recorded
-Lens model not set
- "alarm clock" (exposure info?) not recorded.

....etc. Clearly the software is suggesting I should have input that data, but where and how? I couldn't see any option to do that when I was in the upload dialog box.

There's an Edit icon at the bottom of the page that I clicked and was able to edit the Notes field. I put the camera/lens/film data in there, but this means the data is not searchable in the gallery data base.

The upload process is cumbersome and broken from this user's viewpoint. I should be able to populate relevant fields at the time of upload, like in the old RFF Gallery upload panel. It should be seamless and obvious.

Am I missing something here? If the facility is there please demonstrate preferably with screen grabs so I can see how it works.

I am developing an intense dislike for the new Gallery format. Before, I could quickly scan the pictures and see the user name below each one. I think views and date uploaded were also there. Now I have to move the mouse all over the screen and hover over each photo to see who took it. Extra work, extra time, a real pain. This is minimalist design carried too far. The old gallery design was more efficient, or have a look at the Russian rangefinder site gallery which I find easier to view and use - and I don't even read or speak Russian!

if you upload a picture from a digital camera all the info is extracted from the EXIF. If you need to change the info or add it click the edit button. All of that information is searchable.
Click on the lens, camera, focal length etc ... of an image and you get those matching. Or click on the magnifying glass on the top header of a gallery page to get the search options.

Sorry but... I'm a film user, so no EXIF data. How do I enter EXIF data for a scanned film image?

Take this image, for example, uploaded today https://www.rangefinderforum.com/services/photo/2000140. Below the image I see these fields which I want to populate. I couldn't see any way to populate them at the time of upload, and I can't find how to populate them after upload:

EXIF data

If I click on "LENS MODEL NOT SET" I get a display of all photographs where the lens model has not been set. Ditto for the fields marked "not recorded".

I can look at the EXIF data and see my keywords, but this isn't helpful, the camera/lens/film data needs to be in the proper fields shown above so they can be searched, and so anyone looking at my photos can see what camera/lens/film I used.

Here's the EXIF data that was carried over from my import:

A bit less RFF-relevant but generally useful overall: many years ago I stumbled on AnalogEXIF, a great little program that allows you to create your own "library" of camera, lens, film and developer data and apply them to scanned images in bulk. I can't remember if the old gallery displayed the EXIF data properly - I assume it did - but the one photo I've uploaded since the update shows the AnalogEXIF data perfectly.

the editing of exposure for film users has been resolved. If you see a missing film from the list, start a thread for it.
