Hey guys,
I wonder what do you guys do after polish out the metal part of your camera metal plating? For example after rubbing my Zorki top/bottom plate with Flitz, what can I put on them to retain protection? Some random brand car wax?

Car wax seems to offer some protection so I use McQuires, probably spelled wrong.
Then a polymer coat of NuFinish over the wax. Holds up on cars very well. I used plain Nu Finish on a `81 Olds which I kept for 17 years and it was a daily drive and park at work where a quary dumped crud, rain, snow & killer salt in winter. Paint looked as new when it went to the salvage yard.
Cameras get abused going in & out of camera bags so you get corner/edge wear.
Put them in a soft bag to protest from bag wear.

Is it really worth the fuss? Showing some age is not bad at all. Store it properly and it won't change by much for too long.

I'm with Nikos on this.
There is use & misuse. I don't suppose a thin layer of something is going to help long term. Far better to see a nicely worn camera, which translates to active photographer shooting lots of film.

What to apply after Polish?
Russian, Lithuanian, Belarusian or Ukranian.
Or of course German if you're going westward; Czech if you're going south-west; or Slovakian if you're going south.
After polish, well, I never polish my cameras anyway.
Cheers,
R.

Russians will do it in hard&polish sequences several times. Applied from Friday night to Sunday night. Regularly.
But I was thinking what to do with similar surface of old Elmar 90 F4 just yesterday.

Chrome shouldn't need any coating, it does not tarnish. You might want to wax brass or nickel, though I don't know how much that would help. I would not put a clear coat (polymer) on anything that was supposed to be bare metal unless it's a permanent shelf queen, as the coating will not wear naturally and it will look tacky as it begins to chip and craze.

Renaissance Wax, originally formulated by the British Museum is very good at protecting metals from fingerprints, I have been using it for a number of years. A little goes a long way.

That'll do it. But there used to be an advertisement for Solvol Autosol (probably the finest chrome polish on the market) that said, "Polish Spoken Here".when I was typing the title I was thinking opps I put a big "P" in "polish"
I really wouldn't wax my cameras, though. They'll feel horrible, all slick and unnatural.
Cheers,
R.
