Are not the framelines similar to other M viewfinders? I thought I read this elsewhere.
The noise is not at all bad with the discreet advance turned on. I rather like the discreet advance because it forces me to use the camera more like a gun and I watch the scene evolve as I hold the shutter button down.
I feel like my M8 is more silent in vertical orientation than horizontal, but maybe it is just my ears.

noise: i agree with a previous poster. i started with the M8 and do not consider noise a problem. also, i use a luigi case, and that may help dampen the noise further. (i have not scientifically tested that, though

Considering the M8 shutter comes from the R8 I think it's a miracle they got it as quiet as it is. I know many detractors compare the shutter sound on the M8 to a "Staple Gun" - well if that is true when firing my R8 alongside it the R8 sounds like a "Shotgun"
Frankly it's not an issue really especially with the latest firmware adding discreet mode. No tool is perfect, it's just a matter of adapting to it's particular nuances and learning to get the best out of it whatever the tool may be.
