What to buy next?

Ok.

First things first, I am poor right now. Ok not really poor, but definitely underemployed and encumbered by loans. Secondly, that has never stopped me from purchases before 😀 .

So I have been using the FLRF's for a bit now and am loving both my Canon and my GSN and am beginning to yearn for something with interchangeable lenses. At the same time I have been using my new Rolleicord III and am yearning for something with interchangeable lenses in 6x6 too.

I think I want to pursue 35mm photography sooner as 120 film is not as cheap.

I also want a scanner, which I think will prbably have to be soon, to minimize dev/scan costs.

So, should I just keep filling my 'camera jar' with nickels until I have enough for the Leica M6/ZI and those great lenses or should I get an FSU to tide me over? What about a Contax, Canon, Nikon or other options? My main interest is quality and availability of glass, and the potential completenes of the 'system' (50,70,35.90,24?). Should I buy the Hassy first instead?

I have no problem with delayed gratification on a purchase, but want an opinion on the direction I should be taking.

ok, seriously.
if it were me...

i'd look for a nice 35mm screw mount camera and get a couple of lenses to play with.
if you're keeping the canonet the maybe get a 28mm lens and a 75/85/90/100, in that area.

then i'd go for the scanner. i traded for mine (35rc for the canoscan) and it's the best deal i have made in recent times. the scanner helps to put you in the action. i hated having my scans done for me cause i was too cheap to get high res scans and thought if i had a good shot, then, i would have it re-scanned.
i just much prefer scanning my own now and playing in photoshop right after.

then a mayima tlr with some lenses.

Get a scanner. A flatbed scanner can be very inexpensive and if you use print film exclusively you can scan and play with your photos. Let the camera gear wait while you expand your horizons towards the digital direction.

I don't know if the UMAX scanners are still in production, but you can check out the big office stores and find flatbeds for documents only for very reasonable prices (like $40). Also get in the web and check out the entry level offerings.

That is a toughy. I would say go for the scanner as well. It will save you a bunch eventually and I do not know if you develop your own or if you shot B & W. If you do then you can be totally in house processing and then you really start saving. The savings add up and before long you can get whatever you want. May the force be with you.

Several Options:
Kiev III, Fed III, if you want to go former East Bloc. If you can bring yourself shoot with mirror flipping up, then the SLR classic Pentax Spotmatic can be had for cheap on Ebay and they take really cool shots with SMC Takumar glass, the 50/1.4 or 55/1.8 is totally killer.

For screw mount your probably want something with plenty of framelines, so maybe something like a canon 7 would be good for you. If your looking for lenses, you can get a jupiter 8 for pretty cheap, and 90mm elmars (just sold mine) go for around $100, I have a 35mm Skopar for sale if you interested in that focal length (nobody seems to be interested in it at the moment). There are plenty of screw mount lenses to choose from, much better than contax or nikon mount.
