What to see and shoot in San Francisco?

I'm back in San Francisco after 5 years of being away. I spent many summers in the city as I was growing up and I would also visit during my university days, so I am quite familiar with the city. But it has been awhile since I've spent time in the Bay Area.

I'd like to ask you kind folks for suggestions on what to see and do that's photography (and perhaps even non-photography) related.

I'm definitely planning to see the de Young Museum and SFMOMA. I may head over to Camera West in Walnut Creek and Calumet to peruse some gear and supplies. I'm making sure to go to the Ferry Building as well for the gastronomic cornucopia one can find there.

I'm in town for a week and would love to hear what you all think is worth seeing and shooting.

The path I take when revisiting a place is this: I ask myself what I remember most.

Then I try to shoot it.

It's not as easy as it seems.

For SF it would be the piers, the gingerbread on the houses and the cable cars, but you know about all this already.

Roger, that's a very interesting approach. I think I may take up that challenge.

The only thing I'd add to what's been recommended (including by me in the other thread) is North Beach: great shooting opportunities around St Peter & St Paul's, Cafe Trieste, and along Columbus Ave. This may be familiar ground for you, though. One Sunday this past August, I walked from the Union St boutiques up and over to North Beach, and then down to the Embarcadero, winding up at the Ferry Building. A photographic feast!
