what type of display do you use for editing M8 files?

I have a Powerbook G4 15" (1.65 ghz, 2 gig ram) and a G4 tower (766 mhz, 1.5 ghz ram)with an ACER LCD. I am just wondering what all of you use. I am toying with the idea of getting a new IMAC (gorgeous display and PC in one package), but I am asking myself if it is really necessary, and is the display I have for my tower (ACER) good enough for black and white work (Color sometimes).
 
Twin Dell monitors - 30 inch + 21 inch on its side. I can't believe I still run out of space...! 😱

Far more important than size is accurate colour - if you don't already own a colorimeter like a Spyder3, it's definitely worth getting one...

hmm, i worked for many years off a pbook 15" 1ghz and 4gb ram with no problems. That was my default workbook and i edited all my digital stuff on it (including stuff off a medium format digi back). As long as u calibrate it, the pbook screen will more than suffice. My screen eventually burned out (literally fizzled and died) and i now use a 15" MBP 2.4ghz with 4gb ram. I don't actually feel there's any difference in performance although the MBP's screen is brighter and the LED screen means there is less fall off at the edges. I used to have a 30" display with a G5 at work but i didn't see much adv over my pbook. the pbook meant i could work where i wanted. 30" is only good for touch up work, which i often leave to the DI people. For cropping and photo tweaking, 15" is enough for me.
 
For critical color I use an EyeOne calibrated LaCie 22 Blue CRT. I know that it is big and old fashioned but what I see on the monitor is exactly what I print on my two profiled Epson 9800s.

I also use a LaCie photon 19 LCD on one of my print servers and a 24 inch Apple LCD display/G5 to run my BetterColor scanback camera. Both are nice but, even when profiled, show too much saturation and not enough 3/4 tone detail.

My Macbook Pro display looks great but I'd never use it to edit color.

My wife uses a Dell XPS to do the books and surf the web. It looks good but...

A 23" Apple cinema display... I have my 15" MacBook Pro as a secondary display, but I don't do any color-critical work on the notebook's screen -- generally used as a grid display in Lightroom.
 
I should have added, I reproduce art for a living. Things like 3/4 tone detail are critical in my day to day life. Artists are a fussy lot.

If you're happy with the results from a Mac Book, then that's great. I use mine to see what I shot on location. The adjustments are done later on the LaCie.

I would be perfectly comfortable plugging in the Apple display to the MacBook to work on my M8 photos.
