What was your very own first camera?

An Olympus XA, and I still have it. Rangefinder is yellow and dim, but it still works very well. It was my birthday present when I turned, hmm, ten or eleven, I think.

I received a 1978 Spiderman camera for Christmas I guess back in 1978...I think I shot one roll of film with it. That camera is at my grandma's house...well at least as recently as circa 2000. I probably need to go over there and dig it out.

I received a Sony P&S camera for Christmas around 04 or so...ebayed it now it is a trail cam somewhere in the north eastern USA.

About two years ago I bought a mint condition Zeiss Ikon Contaflex and a bunch of accessories for it...my first 35mm camera.

Last year I bought my first rangefinder...a black Canonet QL17 which I gave away as a birthday gift.

Early this year I bought my first pro camera...a F2 with Eye-Level finder.

I think the next step is a Leica! LOL

I know that I used a 110 camera here and there, but the first camera I remember as being mine alone was a Kodak Disc 4000 my parents gave me when I was ten or so years old. I have no idea where it is now.

The first camera that I owned was a GAF 100XF 126 film box camera, bought for me by my grandfather when I was 11 years old. Long gone, but recently purchased an identical one in mint condition through eBay.

About 45 years ago, my first camera was a Kodak "Pony 135". My parents bought it for me from a pawn shop in Scotsdale, AZ. I wanted to take photos of our trip to the Southwest.

don't remember the exact type, as i borrowed it a few years back and it was never returned... will have to hunt it down, i'd love to see and use it again.

Couldn't even afford a new Praktica slr as a beginning student so at that time (late 70-ties) I could only buy a Zenit E slr with the cheapest available industar. But only two years later I could get a second hand Rolleiflex 2.8c that accompanied me everywhere during my further student time!

I found it forgotten in a drawer few months ago and reactivated it after many years of sleeping there. It is loaded with a Portra 160VC since a few weeks. I'm really wondering how it will perform with such a "high ISO" film. The camera was thought for Ferrania 20 ASA material...

My first very own camera was a Fisher Price camera that took 110 type film. I think I was 8 or 9 at the time (early 90s) and the first picture I took with it was of a girl I had a huge crush on.

When I was twelve I received a Polaroid Big Shot for Christmas, along with three boxes of 108 Color, and Sylvania high-Power Flashcubes, which required batteries to ignite.

Hey, It was a Rangefinder! Fixed-Focus. You moved forward and back, to set the proper distance. Loved that camera, and the instant results. Sent some of the prints to Polaroid, and they made color copy negs through the mail. I contact printed those color negs onto Kodak Velox paper, in my bedroom closet, with a red light bulb. Used a Kodak Tri-Chem Pack, it was -magic-.

Olympus OM-1, back in 1974. I had an elementary school teacher that taught photography (he had a Nikkormat) and got me lusting after a camera. I had my mind set on a Minolta SRT-101 and promised my dad that I would mow the lawn and wash the family car to pay him back for it. It seems just like yesterday when my dad took me to Willoughby's in Manhattan to get the camera. The salesman talked us into looking at an Olympus OM-1, which the salesman said was a very popular camera and explained all of the things it could do -- like have a motor drive -- that the Minolta couldn't and pointed out the smaller size and larger viewfinder. Of course the camera was alot more expensive -- close to $300 back then. However, it was love at first sight and my dad generously got it for me anyway. I used the camera through junior high, high school, college, law school and still have it to this day and still trot it out for photos in adverse conditions -- subfreezing temps, rain, and salt spray. Did take advantage of its features such as motor drive capability. Had it overhauled and CLA'd by Camtech a few years back -- the camera still works perfectly 37 years later. Still love how it handles.

My very first camera was one my Mother gave when I was about twelve. I was an Ansco that took 616 film. I re-discovered it a few years ago when I had to sell my parent's house. A basic camera, but it has a built in light yellow filter that can be flipped into place when needed.
Very cool, but I don't remember using it when I was a kid!
My Dad was a published photographer, and he taught my the basics of B&W by processing my own film!

Kodak 110 instamatic, the one without a built in flash. I remember carrying that on many school filed trips. Don't have it any longer, but would not hesitate to buy one if I saw one on a garage sale table!

As a young-in (ok 25), I only started in 2007 with a Rebel XT. It's funny to think the whirlwind I've been on in the past few years that has me now shooting with an M4 and 35mm Ultron. Wouldn't trade it for anything!
