What . . . We ain't got no slide projecting forum?

Recently picked up a Rollei P350A for $40. Love it. Prefer it over a newer Kodak Ektagraphic III I have.

What do people do with storage? I keep my slides in sleeves, but for ones I want to project now or in the new future, I have them in my 80/140 carousels. With the straight strays what do you use? I noticed Adorama carries a carrying case that holds 6(?) straight trays... looks handy.

I recently came into possession of my dad's old slides from the 60s and 70s, and my aunt just found a box of old slides of my grandfather's dating back into the 50s (I think). Slide projector research is on my list of things to do! I also bought a carousel and holders at a garage sale this past weekend for $1... LOL

Agreed, we need such a forum! In the last few months, I have acquired a Pradovit CA 2500 and Color 250. These projectors are built like tanks. There are many choices regarding lenses and condensers, but info is hard to find. I also have straight trays, and means to mount slides into glass carriers (Leitz Dia Proloc). With digital madness in full swing, people are throwing this stuff into dumpsters. For shame. :)

What are you guys using for projector stands and screens?

Hmmpf. I see we've been relegated to the miscellaneous forum. Leitz projectors thrown in with the bags and cable releases.

I use Ektagraphic projectors, and recently picked up a Leitz RT-300. I also use Hasselblad PCP-80.

I got the Leitz RT-300 after reading a few posts around cyberspace, that it has a whiter light than the Kodak projectors. It uses a dichroic mirror rather than the greenish heat absorbing filter of Carousels, Ektagraphics, and most others. I'm finding that when I do a two-projector dissolve show, with one RT-300 and one Ektagraphic, I don't notice any difference in color cast between them, as the two machines alternate. So maybe it's not a big deal.

The RT-300 runs a little quieter than some of my old Ektagraphics, that like to rattle and clatter. That's good. Two or three of my Ektagraphics (I have six) are just as quiet as the RT-300. I can change a lamp in the RT-300 from behind the projector, without having to flip it upside down or disturb its alignment. That's good. The projection lens has to be inserted into a tunnel. This makes it hard to use my Schneider PC lenses, and impossible to use my large Golden Navitar lenses. That's bad. The RT-300 is larger and bulkier than my Ektagraphics. If I were to switch to all RT-300, I'd build new stands for them, or modify the ones I already built.

Any comments from other RT-300 or Ektagraphic users?

How interesting. I just donated 20 120 rotary trays to a local thrift shop as I didn't have a projector that would take that large a size. I got them in a large lot off ebay some years ago. They didn't fit my Vivitar projector. I did keep the smaller rotary trays and the straight trays. I need to do more slide photography. I always loved projected slides. I hope digital matches that some day. (runs into bunker, closes vault door)

I recently gave my carousel projector and 18 trays and projector table away to my local photo store to use as a rental outfit. ScanCafe.com is in the process of scanning all those chromes for me.

Slide Projectors

Slide Projectors

Hey--thanks for this forum!!
I have RT-300s, which I believe were made by Telex for Leica.
Telex did modify the internal optics for Leica.
I have 2 and they do not autofocus very well.
Most of my slides are viewed with an Ektagraphic IIIA, a Leica Color 250 and a Xenon 750.
The 750 is REALLY bright and white!
Thanks again!
Paul

Xenon 750: is that a projector? With a Xenon lamp?

I forgot to mention: I plugged my Kodak Ektagraphic programmable dissolve control model 2 into the RT-300 to test compatibility. The Rt-300 started cycling the tray around continuously, even though I was not pressing any buttons on the dissolve control. It does this even with the dissolve box turned off and unplugged!

If I plug in my entre 7903 dissolve control, the projector runs normally.

If plugging in the Kodak control makes the projector advance, then the Kodak box must be wired in a way that is incompatible with the projector. That would have to be true. However: the entre box is compatible with both the RT-300 and the Ektagraphic. And the Kodak box is compatible with the Ektagraphic. (Well duh, Kodak made them both.) Now, you would think that if both controllers work with the Ektagraphics, and one works with the RT-300, then the other one should work, too. But, no. So I will have to trace out all these circuits to see why the Kodak unit won't work with the RT-300.

I spent a few years as a field engineer for Emerson Electric. Before that, a radar tech in the USAF. I've seen weirder things. There's always a reason.

I bought a P600 a couple years ago and fixed up a square of matt finish foam board as a permanent screen.I picked up that tip over on photonet.
Always thought that the disadvantage of slides was the setting up.
Now I don`t have to.
The slides (dating back to `73 ) are housed in Leica slide trays.
Mostly K25/64/200.

Rob-F--the Xenon 750 uses a modified Ektagraphic IIIA on a base that contains the 750 watt Xenon lamp and the lamp's power supply.
Really makes for a bright, white image.
Here's a link:

The price they are asking is quite high--you can find them for much less.
Fun to play with!

And yet, another vote for a dedicated subforum.
Three Elmo Omnigraphics (one spare) Kodak dissolve, Tascam 133 (tape deck) and two real nice Elmo lenses.
Abodia slide cabinet with 1500 slides. 6 rolls of unexposed Velvia in my freezer.
A well exposed slide projected in a darkened room on a good screen is pretty nice.

I have a Reflecta Diamator AF - bought from Ebay for a pocket-money price. To go through my in-laws 30+ year-old slides is a fantastic experience.
Best regards,
RoyM

Sounds like we have a lot of interest here. when we get our dedicated subforum, I'll tell you about my Dimension 150 Kollmorgen Super Curvulon projection lens.
