What will be your LAST camera that you purchase?

joe, you have to insist on it. It worked for the fourth or fifth refresh for me.
The damn bastards want me dead in 2028. At the age of 52.
Hah, not so fast, unless there's an apocalypse or something.

I'm supposedly taking my last frame on April 6, 2041

I've already bought three "last" cameras during the last year alone and I'm still after a Nikon FM3a & 50/1.8. I'm hopeless. ....

The FM3A is worth the effort to track down. I picked one up recently from an RFFer and it's a pleasure to shoot with.

I also bought several "last" cameras. I wouldn't mind shooting with a Hexar, since I have some M-Hex lenses, but getting one hasn't afflicted me with serious GAS, so maybe I'm done on the 35mm film front (!).

A digital M, or FF DSLR will probably be my final camera purchase.

My last camera?

"The shower curtain must be inside the bath-tub."

So - I hope - you better ask me later.

at 55 and having recently had a heart attack...🙂 i might be thinking about this more than some...

i think i might be done buying cameras. i'm thinking more about lenses now though.

joe

Joe,
I had a heart attack at 52, and it just slowed me down for a bit. I'm 72 next month, with bipass surgery 18 mo ago, and I've slowed. I think it might be because I'm broke, but it might be because I've got way more than I can use, and I don't get any fun out of putting them in a cabinet.

How ironic, that happens to be my birthday!! Well maybe a 1/2 century or so has passed since I was born.

Me too. According to that death clock I died 10 years ago. I must have gone to heaven because after I died I acquired two M6TTL cameras and a couple of Summicron lenses. 😀

Much more practical than "Rosebud".

harry, so very glad to hear that you lasted 20 years after your heart attack.
gives me hope.

i've been broke most of my life but manage every now and then to pick up some very nice gear as it seems have you.
we must have been blessed with a bit o luck too!!

I read this thread for two days thinking about the question. I'm 67 and starting to accumulate parts that I wasn't born with, tin knee, pacemaker, some poor guys cornea but whenever I see a question about your last anything I think of my dad. I'm a car nut, son of a car nut. One of us is always looking for a new car. When he showed me his last new car he was in his late 70's and said, "I guess that's gonna be the last one." That was eleven years and three cars ago. In the words of whoever played James Bond "Never say never."

shutterflower, selling your bronica and getting a leica will make you miss the large negs. I just thought about the visible difference in the scans you've posted. There's a clear difference even on the slides scanned and shown on a sloppy computer screen. The difference for the colour neg is very large.
Of course it might be that you will enjoy shooting w the leica much more, which is of the highest importance, since both systems produce technically satisfying stuff (i bet).
Bottom line: i am truly sorry that you have to break/sell the bronica+multi pro combo.
If i had the $3500, i'd take it over as is and get rid of all my [pathetic] 35mm stuff. Seriously.

So this is also kinda answer to the main question. The last gear i would buy would be a modern MF system, preferably rangefinder a la bronica, mamiya 6 or 7. AND a MF film scanner.
Yes i know i'm not a cheap dreamer.

The Bronica is not for sale . . . net yet. Probably not ever. but it could happen. ANd I'd have a good reason to do it. I would probably sell it if someone offered the full $3500 I paid for the kit, though. I am going to buy a flatbed to replace my Multi Pro - not as good by any measure, but good enough for someone who never sells his work and only rarely prints it. I've only printed 25 shots digitally.

Last ever? Dunno.

Lately I've been focussing down my RF gear. I made a plan a year ago the I'd go M-mount with an M2 and an M6. I got the M2 last autumn and the M6 last week. A fast 50 and/or a fast 35 and I reckon that'll be my RF lineup sorted for good.

Unless a lottery win materialises, in which case all bets are off 😀 Can you say 3 MPs (2x 0.72 and a 0.85) and Digital-M? But I've never bought a ticket yet, so... 😉

SLR wise, maybe a better DSLR if the next few years are good, but I wouldn't count on it.

Is this what it's like to be satisfied with gear?

That Mother of All Clocks says I've got till 2040 to think about that "last" camera (among other, weightier stuff, of course). Where's Bud Collyer when we need him!?

As far as a last Main Axe camera is concerned, it depends on how long my Hexars hold out, because I can't imagine replacing them with anything else at the moment and being quite as content. Would be nice to have a non-motorized companion to them – perhaps a ZI, maybe some flava of M4 or M6. Other than that, the "last camera" is here until it breaks (or I break, whichever comes first).

I just keep coming back to this tread!

I would be 47 then, only 20 more years???

I am gonna get a M6 0.85 and a Noct, next time any serious amount of $ came into my hand.

Since I think a man should live forever, or die trying, that would probably be the last camera they make.

What does the Holo Doc on the Voyager use?
