not sure if this info. is validated, but it may be that either the later "S" firmware, and/or the "S" model, has trouble focusing, esp. with the 75/1.4, may want to ask around before upgrading your original RD1, or getting an "S" model. I'm looking for an RD1 with original firmware.

The firmware has nothing to do whatsover with the focussing.
The camera has a mechanical rangefinder. The firmware cannot change the way the camera focuses.
How did you get the idea that the firmware has something to do with the focus mechanism?
