What would cause this flare?

Notice the darker blacks on the left side compared to the right side? What would cause this? I was thinking it could be a light leak in the body? I processed the film (TRIX @ 1600) myself in Diafine, could this be caused by my bad processing technique? I've seen the same effect several times with different rolls with the same lens+body combo. (M6+CV 35 PII)

For this shot, the only light source was directly above the table...

No connection with processing. The figure on the right is between camera and light, while the others are under the light or farther away.

But how does being closer to the light source lead to darker blacks?

No idea. Just laid out an observation for better people to work on.

only thing I can think is that the light reflected off the dark shirt closest to you has less distance to cover, so doesn't fall off as much.

But I am probably just mis-using the inverse square law.

I'll be curious to hear others thoughts.

edit... could also be a subtle veiling flare from the oblique lightsource? were you using the hood?

dunno... it's a puzzlment.

I was not using a hood for this picture.
