A few days ago, browsing on the auction site I saw an interesting Leica M4, black chrome that looks pristine. I bid, I lost. A couple of days later I received a second chance offer for my original bid (in accordande with the site's rules), a bargain! Trouble is, the seller changed the method of payment, I asked why, he answered with an account number for the money to be wired, I asked him to send a picture of the camera, top visible with a local journal in the background with the date clearly visible, answer: "I will ship item on friday because of business trip" but no picture. The person has an est european last name, he is located in Vancouver Ca. he is a new member with zero feedback, he seems legit but I have my doubts, either he is totally inexperienced or a scammer.
What would you do?

Mess with him as long as you can: keep telling him that your bank says they've sent the money, that the problem has to be on his end, and so on. And narc to his bank on him, too. Be creative and enjoy!

If you would like to check you can do a number of things:

- Check if the 2nd chance offer came through e-bay.
It sould be in your e-bay inbox. If it is not, then 100% sure a scam.

- Send a mail to the winning bidder of the item. and ask him if the deal went wrong indeed.

- Send a mail throug ebay (not replying) to the ones you received, but through
Ask member if it is indeed him offering 2nd chance.

- Ask the member details through the bay. Check if his number is in canada, and
just give the guy a call.

If all of the above is OK then it may not be a scam.

several alarming things ...

1) he is a zero feedback seller on a high ticket item
2) he changed payment method to wire transfer (for which there is no recourse if there fraud)
3) he answers your legitimate email questions with totally off-topic nonsensical answers
4) he is a zero feedback seller on a high ticket item !!!!!

There are plenty of great people selling on RFF, wait and you will soon see what you want. No need to take high risks on Ebay.

Good luck.

There will be plenty more M4's

As rest here have said, run away from this one.

you could always send the money through escrow and then if the camera shows up how it should be then yeah, if it doesnt you get the money back

otherwise I smell a rat

Hey lets get his email and say we heard he had a great deal in a camera.. How many of us are there? that would be funny
