I greatly appreciate the work you've all been doing to make this site better for us, and it really is paying off - the site really is good. But come on guys, don't you think that off-hand dismissal is a tad arrogant and condescending?

I really do mean this constructively, but the new black-on-white skin really isn't very nice - it looks like a flash photograph in a snowstorm. The temporary black-on-white skin we had yesterday was much better - is there no chance we could have that one back as well?

I repeat that I mean this constructively - I really do think you should be a bit more open to honest opinions and a bit less prickly when people dare to question your choices.

I understand your frustration with the response, but I can't see what the problem is with the default layout. You can change your color scheme back to white on black - where is the problem and why do you care what the default looks like? I always had my color scheme as black on white because it is much easier on my eyes - as long as the option was available, I never cared what the default looked like.

Two things...

Firstly my comment is about the way criticism here is more and more becoming dismissed off-hand in such a condescending way.

Secondly, regarding the color scheme. I'm not complaining about the default - I'm complaining about the lack of a black-on-white option. The default is white-on-black, and my older eyes really can't handle it, so I changed it to black-on-white. And now they've taken away the black-on-white and replaced it with gray-on-white (which is surely a bad combination in anyone's eyes)!

Agreed.

What is wrong with black on white? Stop trying to be cool and stylish and just give us something that can be read without eyestrain.

Hmm, just went to have a look at the skin and yep, gotta agree, grey on white is tougher to read. Adding a black on white version shouldn't be that problematic should it ?

If you were color-blind, you'd understand. The current default was clearly designed by someone who did not follow color-vision standards that use colors that generally don't confuse 'normal' eyes or 'color-blind' eyes. The default is very difficult to see, white fonts or not.
 
Criticism is not dismissed here as often as some may think. The problem is that there are 24,000 members and they cannot all be appeased. It's just impossible. There are a half dozen threads or so discussion the colors some are constructive criticism and some are just plain old whining. A lot of effort has been put into providing a community for people to gather and enjoy the benefits offered here at no cost to the user. Therefore, when people start on a rant it gets old really fast. Keep in mind, this is one of the few forums out there that lets people make suggestions and have their voice heard. Other site just do the change and implement them without any feedback or even answering the request of the users. This is what we have to offer and what will be for the time being. Some should be appreciative that we provided a different color theme on request. We are not prepared to provide 24,000 different themes for everyone.
 
As I've said in other threads, give me the basic CSS I need to change and I'll make a black on white theme, complete with cool header, that will work. Trust me...my boyfriend is color blind and I completely understand what people are getting at here.
 
I'm not complaining and I'm not criticizing, but since this thread happens to be here, well, I might as well just inform whoever might care that this format is somewhat more harsh on my eyes. I don't know why, but it is just harder for me.
 
Let me add something, too :)

When using the VBP Iskin, I cann't logout anymore (button missing) :eek:

(would love to have yesterday's temporary black on white and orange back ...)

There is more than the skin, there is code involved.

A black/white option is in the works and will be available in the next few days, maybe even today.

The HUGE deal about the old server was the loss of the random gallery pics. Now we have them back, few bother to mention it, and instead want to complain about whatever. Everyone is not going to be happy about everything, it is just not going to happen.

Stephen and Jorge,

I really appreciate the new server, its speed and having random gallery pics back. Also, the upgrade on the week-end must have been hard work. The fact that RFF was back up in reasonable time and stayed up is highly respectable.

I am also confident that fixing remaining glitches (like the missing log-off button - see my previous post), and recovering the black on white scheme that we had for a day yesterday will happen in due time :)

Wondered why I was back to black background when I looked in this morning- very happy to have this black on white back as well.

Thanks for responding. And I must point out (as the originator of this thread) that I have certainly noticed the speed improvements and I'm delighted to have the random gallery links back - I have said so. Compared to that, the colour scheme thing is relatively minor.

Anyway, back to all the good stuff for a moment - many thanks for the great improvements, and many thanks for running such a great site.
