what's a good solid M body?

Hi Joe

Hi Joe

I am not trolling. Note that I am not responding to posts that don't address my original question in some way, other than *your* insult to my photographs.

i think you are trolling.

people can be non fondlers and not shoot dozens of rolls per walkabout.

why the need to insult others because they don't have your habits.

Most all M2s and M3s have foggy images when used with faster films.

False statement.

A few abused M2s and M3s, or those there have not been properly cared for, just like any other camera of the period subject to the same lack of care or misuse, would perhaps have foggy images.

This is the most common failure with the M6, I see threads on it here, and on other forums at least every week.

If it appears here and on other forums at least every week, why are all those other forum posts not showing up on google? That would represent least 52 threads a year for the past few years on all the major forums, right?

Try googling 'm6 rewind issue failure leica' and what's the link that shows up first?

Oddly enough, it's this very thread.

A properly cared for M6 will not suffer abnormal rewind failure even if you shoot 30 rolls a day every day.

Abuse it, and all bets are off.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I am just trying to understand the reliability of Leica M's, and those who take a lot of photographs with them.

What are you getting about at my photos, I take a lot of photos and have over 10,000 "good shots" on my galleries and blogs.

I apologize to you that I do not have any sitting on the "loo" waving, if that is your idea of a "good shot"

You make my head hurt more and more. Isn't there a place called dpreview for people who start fights instead of shooting?

I presume many here are "fondlers" and don't go and put 30 rolls through your M-body in an evening stroll.
Well, thanks for providing the very definition of a "fondler". As an alternative to a P+S you might want to get a Canon EOS-1V HS with an EF 50mm f/1.0L USM and a Noritsu minilab: No more Costco scans and 50+ rolls in an evening stroll...

Does the M7 or the MP have a more robust rewind system than the M6?
The MP has the old-style (M2/M3) rewind knob rather than an angled lever, so it's slower but probably safer for people with fists of ham. As far as I know, the M7 has the same rewind as the M6.

So maybe a CLE is an alternative to an M7
The CLE is nowhere near as robust as the M series.

Thanks Oscroft

Thanks Oscroft, this is good info. I appreciate it.

This one is working fine:

I don't think you need a camera. You would be better off with treatment for your obsessive-compulsive disorder.

If the question is serious, then I think that Ted needs to rethink his notions of "solid" and "cheaply made." As it is posed the question is essentially analogous to asking why the transmission on a car that is driven 600-700 miles per day needs to be repaired so often. It must be "cheaply made" and not "solid" enough.

Personally, I'm still unconvinced that an M6 couldn't handle the workload that Ted is describing. But, if he truly is putting 30 rolls through his M-body in an evening stroll, then it would not be surprising if his cameras needed more regular maintenance and more repair than the cameras belonging to those of us who don't shoot quite so much film. I would also suggest that anyone who was willing to spend that much on film processing should take a different perspective on the cost of cameras from the one adopted by the rest of us.

The logistics of taking an evening stroll and shooting 30 rolls of film:

If you take a picture every five seconds for one and a half hours ... yes?

Gives me RSI just thinking about it! 😛
