what's a good solid M body?

Hmm. A meter-less CL might be very robust. Ask Joe, he can tell you how to take the meter out without garden equipment 🙂

BTW, for the price of your RD1, you can buy 5 or so CLs, and just keep swapping for a while if they break. That might get you through your stressful strolls 🙂

Cheers,

Roland.

do you forget nothing!!!?

an interesting point that if you keep your digicam and batteries close enough to your body, to maintain it's low op temp, it will survive Everest and beyond.

It's a given that if you keep a digicam above the freezing point it will work, Everest or beyond...

I'm asking for advice. I've never owned a Bessa. The Bessas (some) can mount M-mount lenses, the Nikons can't.

So what is more likely to go out, a Bessa VF or other part, or the Leica rewind jam?

Are Bessas light tight?

Try one of them (Bessa R2A for example).. they are not expensive, and if don't like it you can sell it.

One of the cameras that seems to have escaped mention here is the Ikon. Interestingly my Ikon's advance mechanism has always felt a little stressed to me which could just be my example I guess. If I was going somewhere where I knew I was going to be shooting thirty rolls of film a day it would not be the Zeiss ... I would happily trust my M2 in this situation though!

My well used Hexar feels like the rewind mechanism is unburstable and I suspect it would be capable ... you'd go through a lot of batteries though and I just bought my first replacement set the other day ... $20.00! 😱

I couldn't agree more. That M3 (especially the early DS models) are pure junk -- I pick them up by the bushel at flea markets and garage sales and use them for paperweights or door stops. I've got one I use as hammer.

Excellent ... I've heard they work particularly well on gold plated nails! 😛
