What's going on with Flickr?

Flickr is great. Just allow yourself to get used to the IF.
I still pay for a pro acct as I don't Like ads.
Tons of storage and multiple organization methods and upload tools..
I don't understand the complaints.

... true, but it's as ugly as sin ... and ... so ..... slow ....... :fetching more words: ......... that ............... I for ...................... one ............................. lose

I sort of do, but I don't mind their changes too much. Flickr had been the same for a very long time, which is both a good and a bad thing. But now I guess some things are moving higher up at Yahoo and they decided a radical makeover was due so Flickr is moving to where the hype is, mobile friendly, instagram style "follow" etc

To me however Flickr was already a little dead before that shift happened

I'm not an iPad user but use the iPhone app often. It's a super app.
Is there an iPad app now as well? When I set up my moms mini last Junes there were only 3rd party apps for flikr.... sucky at that.

Off topic, but where do I find the RFF app which I declined when I first got my iPhone? I'd like it now, if it means 3G works better.

No official free flickr-app. I use "iExplorer for Flickr". Costs a few EUR if you don't want to see ads. Not so easy to use because it has so many options. Browsing and viewing single images is really good.

Agreed, Flickr is a PIA, but what are the best alternatives?

Been trying to find this BB Code in the iphone app but no luck! How does this work??

Edit: on the Desktop version I found the way to insert pics..... it's just the darn iPhone app that's flawed

In my humble opinion its gotten worse.
If you have any other windows open and try to navigate Flickr the Flickr pane just disappears.

The drop downs seem to have been made redundant yet remain ...a real mess in other words.

The thing I like least about Flickr now is that they have fritzed about with the statistics. Now it seems that someone only has to go near one of your images and it adds to your stats even if your image was not opened and looked at. Gratifying till you figure out whats going on - that its a all big con job to help sell advertising. For those who do not have a pro account its also no fun - what with all the advertising that defaces your pages. I do not mind paying to get rid of this but I think that option is no longer available unless you already have a pro account??!! Sad (he says resignedly!)

This is really my main gripe. I don't mind the new view, and I enjoy have contacts around the world. I understand why the old stat measuring system was insufficient, the "thumbnails" are now so big I don't always click on pictures I admire to get a larger size, but there should be some way to show how many times someone does actually click on it to view it. The proximity model is ridiculous. Especially when its proximity in search results. I get boosts in "views" on shots I know for sure people aren't looking for in the searches.

These stats baffle me, I understand you only need to pass gently by and it triggers but I just uploaded some shots (note this is not product placement) and stats show one has 17 views, on the edit screen it shows 6 views. And yes I did move straight across, go figure, please

Flickr is less functional, slower loading, and harder to use now than ever before. So I can understand the complaints.

Not really understanding the complaints of Flickr being "less functional" 😕

And, as for these complaints about it being slower - well, I think that is an issue borne from the digital age, that is usually a complaint of youngsters - wanting everything quicker, now or faster. A page takes a couple of seconds longer to load up than the previous version. Er, okay. The world still turns and the sun still sets.

I really do think this faster, faster attitude is what contributes to the breakdown of society. Patience is a virtue we must cultivate.

Of course, I'm only joking.

But I'm serious.

Its a real mess Chris .
Very slow to load and freezes whenever you try and scan down the photos.
Comes back but at a random point so you have to backtrack.

If you have any other window open the Flickr page just disappears.

I really don't have any problems with it, Mike. Apart from it being slower. Which I don't find to be an actual problem.

I think more people should Engage their Tuna Blasters 😉

Flickr is the only site I know of that will actually noticeably slow down the performance of pages I have open in other tabs. How they manage to be so bad they're actually ruining other sites is beyond me.

Slows down other tabs?? Again, not an issue for me, but then again, I am spoiled by a relatively slow broad band speed, so I never expect much out of page loading times. Can't say I have any noticed any difference to other tabs/pages though.

*polishes MacBook Pro* 😀
