What's going on with Flickr?

I really don't have any problems with it, Mike. Apart from it being slower. Which I don't find to be an actual problem.

I can just about accommodate the new look and I agree speed isn`t everything but ,as tunalegs says , its the way it also affects the pages in other other tabs .

The fact that the drop downs don`t work.
The random way it chooses to select which picture you can view.

I`ve worked on user interfaces on complex government systems for over twenty years.
I would have thought that from most perspectives this is a shoddy piece of work and I`m surprised that they found anyone to sign it off.


I guess it depends on how much you use the site.
For an occasional upload and the odd look around it might pass muster.
If you don`t have a dedicated web site though it now leaves a lot to be desired as a main site.

Well, I'm not going to fight its corner or anything, but things like drop downs not working are, again, another issue I've not had. I wonder how prevalent this is? Are users ancillary software up to date? And their browsers etc? Have they done other stuff that usually comes with the baggage of having PCs (you'll have to forgive me if these suggestions are out of date or not relevant, as I have not had a PC for circa a decade). Defrags, clearing the cache, backing up and emptying primary hard drive, getting rid of unnecessary bloatware, sufficient RAM?
It may just be that Flickr is a labour intensive site for less than modern machines - I don't know.

Thing is, as well Mike, what were seemingly complex interfaces on any system in the last twenty years are likely to essentially be chump change to modern PCs/Macs - its the whole technology moving so quick thing...

All I can say is the only thing I have noticed about it is that infinity scroll pages take a bit longer to load up and thats all. None of the other issues mentioned, ever. *shrugs*

I have to use Firefox for this site for some reason .... but I don`t don`t care for it.

For everything else I use Explorer.

It seems clear that the new look has not been designed for use on a PC.

Indeed they are. I've been using them for many years, although I prefer gelatine capsules, as they're easier to swallow.

Ok, so here's how you do it. On the NEW Flickr layout (spit!):

1) choose the icon that looks like a box with an arrow curving out of it (the "share" icon). It's now in the right hand sidebar about a third of the way down, in a row with the star, comment balloon, and ... icons

2) in the resulting popup menu, choose the icon that looks like a thumbtack (pushpin) - this is for BBcode. There is a </> icon next to it for html.

3) choose the size you want from the dropdown menu

4) the BBcode appears in the single-line at the bottom of this popup. I was unable to click and drag across it to select it, but clicking and then using shift+arrow key to scroll across and highlight it all worked fine.

5) copy-paste as usual. Let's see if it works...



Seems ok. Clunky as heck, but ok.

As an aside... doing this now just pastes a clean photo. Previous iterations included text for the title and links back to the photo page by default. I like this better.
