I've been following Leica 35mm pre-ASPH Summilux's for a long time on eBay and I've never seen one that has this low of a bid with only one day left on the auction.

Does something not seem right to you about this lens? The high bidder already asked the seller if something was up.
Is there a discrepancy between the serial number and it being labeled a Summilux-M ?
Seller says this example was made in Canada.
Cheers,
Yusef

There is a Q and A at the bottom of the ebay page. Someone else thinks it sounds strange, too. I will list that below, but the poster seems confused, as the Lux 35 has been made since 1960. The poster must be confusing the pre-asph with the asph, which came out in 1995. The seller looks legit per his/her rating.
It reads as follows:
Q: Hi, Upon researching this lens the history just does not add up. As far as I can tell 35mm Summilux-M did not go into manufacture until 1994, but this Summilux-M has a serial number that dates to 1985. So prior to 1995 no Summilux lenses had the -M suffix. Was it made in Germany or Canada? What is the model number? Is it guaranteed not to be a "mix master" of various lenses? I am the high bidder, but right now I don't feel very comfortable with it. Thanks.
A: This was manufactured in Canada. Leitz/Leica Summilux M

2 thoughts,
1/ the bidder doesn't know his Leica lenses
2/ he's trying to hopefully put off other potential bidders by casting some false doubt on this lens!
It's 200 away from mine and looks identical
This should go for $1800++++ depending on day, lunar phase etc

The highest bidder has his facts wrong. Even if he's talking about the summilux aspherical he has the dates wrong. This is a pre-asph summilux so nothing wrong with the serial.
I imagine now you have brought this lens to the attention of this forum there may be a few more bids

I think the low bidding is due to the use of the world "minty" in the title.

The price is on the rise. Sometimes, the prices remain low, but escalate dramatically in the last 24 hours. I suspect that will occur.

Also... He won't ship it over seas. "No international shipping, please do not ask."
That certainly limits his market.
