What's going on with Zeiss?

It's been a couple of years since I've added anything to the Leica M stables, and the Zeiss 35mm Biogon f/2 caught my eye.

But of course, this lens isn't buyable *anywhere*! B&H, Adorama, all the usual suspects are plain out of stock for just about every Zeiss M-mount lens in existence.

Is there something I've missed, is there something going on with Zeiss' supply?

Most Zeiss lenses are made in Japan. The earthquake there this past summer may have an effect upon them, as it has upon Nikon's production of lenses.

Have you tried to purchase a Leitz lens lately? They're usually out of stock too.

Leitz? I trust you mean Leica. Leitz hasn't made lenses for an M series camera since the 1980's.

It is simpler than that. There just isn't any supply. It is just like Lietz.
