Have you ever got back from a shoot or suddenly went into a bag that has not been used for a while and some of your beloved kit is gone. It happened to me in the late 1980's, I had a Sigma 28mm 2.8 PK fit for my Pentax MX, I came home from shooting the fishing fleet at North shields and put my bag away, a couple of weeks later I went for the bag again and the 28mm was gone. Even to this day I think back and wonder what I did with that lens, at the time I could never afford the Pentax SMC M 28mm, so the sigma was my next choice. i replaced it with a Hoya 28mm. Ok then own up what have you lost

Many years ago while shooting a wedding, I lost an electrical remote release cord for my Rolleiflex 6006. No longer have that camera. I went back and looked but a guest must have picked it up and not known what it was.

One autumn I found a light meter that I thought I had lost, in the pocket of a coat I seldom wear. That was a happy day.

I received a SB600 flash for Christmas 2 years ago from my wife while in the UK. Somewhere between packing and getting home, the flash disappeared.

I dont have any proof, but I'm pretty convinced it was pulled out of the bag after I checked it. Two of our bags were tagged as opened and hand searched. That was the last time I checked a bag.

In college, I lost a 80mm Componon-S enlarging lens on the way home from a local camera store.
Next day I had to "settle" for a Rodagon. 🙂
It still bums me out that I never got to used it.

I lost a Pentax when I drove off with it on the roof of my car!

On the bright side I found it when I realised what I'd done and retraced my steps ... unfortunately I ran over it! 😱

😀

I've "lost" 2 pieces of gear that I left on the car roof and drove off with on separate occaisions: a Canonet 1.9 and a Gossen LunaLux F. I have both and they still "work" but the back was ripped off the camera and the dial broke off the meter. I drove about 25km and was almost home with the camera on the roof, but 90km/hr disloged it. I saw both items fall in the rear view mirror and was able to stop and retrieve them.

I find stuff that I cannot remember ever owning. Came across a Nikkor 50mm F2 AI on my Nikon FG. I have no idea when or where I bought it. Maybe a camera show? Oh well, makes up for the one that I gave away to a student starting photography.

I was shooting in a seedy area and left a Sekonic 308 meter on the side of the road. I know exactly where I left it. I realized it when I got home 30 minutes later, drove directly back to the spot and alas, it was gone. The only people down there are homeless. I was miffed, but I wonder what the heck that person thought it was. It probably got tossed in a dumpster. I'm on 308 #3 now.

Most likely lost stuff I didn't know I've lost. I am however missing a Lumix lens cap from one of those MFT lenses.

I was in Paris recently and would go out shooting leaving the lens cap in my rental because I didn't want to lose it. It would fall off easily if bumped and I could see it falling to the floor on a crowded metro train.

Came back from exploring one day and just could not find it. I've checked their website, but Panasonic don't sell replacements.

On vacation visiting my grandparents, my dad left his P&S camera on the roof of the car, drove off, and thought the camera was lost. Turns out someone picked up the camera, developed the film, and recognized one of my uncles or cousins and returned the camera and film to us. It was a small town in the midwest so I guess the odds of someone you know finding a lost item were pretty good =P

It's embarrassing but cathartic to expose one's shortcomings to the world. Thus, I have a story to tell. A few years ago I stopped on the way home to take a few shots and decided to use my tripod--something I freely admit I don't always do. After taking a few pics I removed my camera from the tripod, stuffed it in the bag and walked over to my car--only a few feet away--to put it inside. Having closed the trunk I somehow or other got distracted and, neglecting to go back and collect my tripod, I hopped in the car and drove off home, leaving said tripod standing in plain sight within a few feet of the road.

When I started to unload at home it only took a moment to realize what I had done and I hotfooted it back (only a couple miles) but, alas, the tripod was long gone. What really choked me up was that, after using an old 3-way head for many years I had just installed a brand new Manfrotto ballhead. Needless to say I have trained myself to take a quick inventory of gear before I leave any site where I've had anything out of the car...

Once lost the hood cap from a 35mm Summilux ASPH at a friends wedding reception.

Hours later, a member of the staff later came up to me, said just a minute - I've got something for you, and returned with the missing cap !
Thanks very much 🙂
