Hello Folks,
Sorry to bump in. I just wanted to remark what a beautiful part of the world you all live in. I wish I could join you for your next meeting.
We were in the USA in July last year for my wife's 60th. After Johnny Mathis in Pittsburgh and a few days in NYC we flew to Seattle for a couple of days and then drove slowly down to San Francisco over four days. That NW corner seems to be a great place to live. Take a beer for me!

Looks like there is a meet-up brewing down in Portland on or around the 20th if you can't make it to this one.
Gregory, Also checked out your tumblr...You have some good shots there! I liked the re-blog of Martin Luther King Jr. I also see you shoot Double X. With an M2 and Double X life must be grand
Cheers

I'm in. Looking forward to seeing everyone. If you make it Brian, I hope you bring along that Leica III you picked up - what a bargain!

I'll bring it. I actually had a CLA'd Zorki on its way here from Europe when I picked up the Leica III. I'll bring it as well for comparison.
Still really in love with III and Summar. I may have to pass the Zorki on to someone else as its not getting as much use as it deserves. I'm still working through a test roll with it.

Not sure if any of you are on Tumblr. But I started a photo blog if you're interested. There seems to be quite a community of rangefinder photographers on there.

Also Brian, where you downtown shooting with a rollie TLR yesterday? I think I saw you briefly.

Thanks man! I appreciate it. I'm currently out of XX though... I had bought like 5 rolls from someone on flickr, and now I need more! Can't find any short ends or recans
Tri-X until I find some. and yes, photo life is awesome! Though college takes up a significant amount of my time.
I'll know if I can make it once I get my homework load on friday haha so i'll be a late notice person.

You may be in luck. I'll try to get some rolled this week if I have time. I have 20 rolls (est) left on this reel. The canister is not refrigerated and sits in my cool closet, been there little over a year. I'll be ordering a couple of 400ft canisters here this spring and will have plenty on hand if you need some in the future.

Yes, I was out shooting with an TLR, an Autocord to be specific. I'm still trying to find and fix a light leak.
I haven't shot XX though I've heard a lot about it. I'd love to give it a shot without jumping in and buying 400ft. If you have a few extra rolls at some point I'm interested too.

Holy Smoke what a turnout! I'm still feeling the Old Wooly.
By the head count there were 14 or so of us.
Ashwin, Thanks for sharing your pictures from the trip! You'll have us all shooting an M9 before all is said and done, fantastic!
Maclaine, Thanks for sharing your pictures, you finally got to see the misguided RFF group, did I say misguided?
Good luck with the Double X.
Aaron gave us a sneak preview of our Seattle RFF logo. D76 1:1, Tri-X and the whole kitten kabootle! Awesome!
Joel, Thanks for your unwanted publications donation. I hope you got the best brew from the house for those!
Larry showed us his brown bottle. The grolsch type bottle with the ceramic cap. 500ml to boot! Was that XTOL you kept in there?
There was a lot more going on and there is more to this meeting that what I experienced at my end of the table. Please feel to add to this. What a good turnout and I hope future meetings bring the same.
Cheers

Really liked meeting all you guys.
I am struck by how highly you, as a group, value your equipment over your captured images. Doesn't the camera, as photographers use it, allow one to express their personal vision? I know I won't be welcomed at the next get-together for saying this but instead of putting your Leica's and Summicrons on the table maybe it would be better putting your image portfolios on the table and asking everyone at the table "whats good and what needs work"?

Hey Michael, no worries on your comment. I think that is a good suggestion.

It would take a lot more than that to alienate us.
I find people bringing out gear useful. It lets me handle a bunch of different equipment which makes it less mystical to me. If anything, the opportunity has made me less focused on gear.
This was my second time attending one of these events. The portfolio work and dissuasion about darkroom technique really made an impression on me the first time. As someone who hadn't printed any work (digitally or in the darkroom) in over a decade, the portfolios really did get me excited about getting back to printing myself.
I really wanted to have some work to share this time but didn't get around to making any prints. I'll have work next time we're together.
...
All that said, I think I've only met about half of the people who've made it out. As I get there on the late side, I generally hang out with the other less timely people. Perhaps next time I'll try to get around to the other end of the table to chat a bit.

Actually, after further reflection and a good nights sleep I would like to apologize for my post. It was rude and impertinent of me to criticize a perfectly delightful bunch of fellows I just met. I did enjoy the company and the exchange of ideas and images. Lesson learned.
Again, I apologize for being so insensitive to a great group that is passionate about film. The passion is the point.

I think your point is fair, though, Michael. I would have loved to see more photos from other folks there, although not everyone has access to the equipment to make either traditional or digital prints. I only print maybe 1/10 of my photos and just scan and post the rest online, and I imagine that is the case with others. Still, maybe this will inspire some folks to bring more prints next time. I give away most of my prints as gifts, so I was only able to bring some older stuff, and mostly work prints at that. I intend to bring a lot more to the next gathering.
Having said that, I do think gear talk is fun, too. I know not everyone is a gear head, but I enjoy that aspect as much as I do looking at my and others' images. It's nice to be able to talk about this kind of stuff without people's eyes glazing over or feeling like you have to stop and explain what you're talking about every three seconds. Photography can be such a solitary art, and film and rangefinder photography is such a small niche, it's nice to meet up with like minded individuals just so you don't feel crazy and are inpsired to keep shooting.
I think the gear side of it is more an appreciation for the craftsmanship of the tools. Plus it's nice to get a chance to shoot with lenses you might not otherwise be able to. For instance, if Ashwin wasn't there, the odds of me shooting with the 28mm Summicron ASPH are about as good as me winning the lottery. But now I'll get a chance to see a photo taken with this lens with my own particular eye for composition on the film of my choice and developed the way I like to develop. That alone made the gathering worth it.
Above all, it was great to meet everyone and see that there is a quite a healthy RF community in Seattle. I too was pleasantly surprised at the turnout, along with the variety of people and the age range we all spanned. I'm really looking forward to another get together soon.
P.S. Thanks for the Double X, Gary! Very generous of you, and I'll be sure to have some prints made from it at the next meet up.
