Whats the best flash to get for my G2?

You can tell I'm a SLR person, because I have so many G2 questions. Sorry.

When I would shoot portraits outside with SLR it would have a flash mounted on a bracket. Great for my weddings and outside portraits.

Would it be possible to do this on a G2? Do they make a bracket?

And the big question....what flash would people recommend? I know the TLA200 is not that good if you want to avoid red eye. What do you suggest?

I can answer the last question.
The small TLA200 is not that bad, but due to the small distance to the lens red eyes are a problem. So I usualy use my old TLA30 instead. Another reason are batteries. Those two CR2 batteries don't last very long and are very expensive, here.

TTL fill flash is a bit tricky with the Contax G anyways, so I usualy avoid flash at all. If I have to, I meter with the flash power off, set the camera in manual and switch on the flash later.

I haven't used flash brackets, but everything should work if you connect your flash to the PC-socket of with a hotshoe adapter.

I use a TLA-200 on my G1. I use it on a Pro-T flash bracket or handheld. Very nice. I use an Onlypus Digital flash cable (funny, I won a TLA cable).

Works like a charm.

I don't have experience with the G1/G2, but here are my thoughts..

I have used the Metz flash that's intended for my SLRs on my Konicas (both Hexar-AF and Hexar-RF). And although it works (pinout is the same as for Nikon), it's no fun. The sizes don't match. The flash balances well on an SLR which I hold by cradling the lens, but I can't keep the smaller cameras steady with it.

So I stick with a very small and light flash on the Konicas that only gets use for fill (at EV -1.5 or so).

I don't like the TLA 200...even though following the aperture/distance guides, the faces of my subjects were always blown out. I've used a Vivitar 285HV for years on Nikon and Mamiya gear, and actually used the G2 with the 285HV mounted on a Stroboframe Press-T, to shoot(along with my SLR) a wedding reception. It felt top-heavy but manageable, and the results were excellent.

I have the Metz '54, with the foot that goes with the camera. With it I get better results, particularly with bounce flash, than the TLA-200, but it's huge. It also does rear-curtain work, but I've not yet had the opportunity to play with that part of the flash (for lack of imagination, I suppose).
